Verifying Truth

Today's reading: Galatians 1:6-10

Paul's letter to the Galatians starts off a little differently. Rather than beginning with encouragement and commendation like in many of his other letters, Paul's first words after his greeting are words of reprimand to this group of Christ followers. Why? Because they were being influenced and swayed by false teaching and were turning to "a different gospel" than that taught by Paul, which is consistent with God's Word.

False teaching was prevalent in Paul's day, and it is still alive and well today. But thankfully, we have God's Word, the Bible, to help us stay on the right path. So when we hear, read or see something or someone who is teaching and telling us they are proclaiming truth, we shouldn't simply take their word for it. Instead, we should be comparing and checking that teaching with what we find in God's Word, which is the only place where we can be certain to find God's truth.

Is it your practice to open up God's Word to search for and verify what constitutes truth? What does this passage reveal about the importance of being knowledgeable about and familiar with God's Word? Tami

Tami, this lesson is as timely as it was in Paul's day.

Not too often, I am pretty verse on the basic doctrines of the Bible but it I would do well to KNOW as well and to rely on my past knowledge of what the Scripture to help other believers to stand strong against false doctrine.

What does this passage reveal about the importance of being knowledgeable about and familiar with God's Word?
Paul takes it quite serious and says if they believe another Gospel although there is no other gospel that person who refuse to be steadfast to the teaching of the Word of God in which Paul was faithfully preaching he said they should be accursed!!

Sobering words from God's Word may I heed it.
