If God Wills

Today's reading: James 4:13-17; Proverbs 16:9

None of us know what tomorrow holds for us, our family, our friends, or even the world. And whether we want to acknowledge it or not, the fact of the matter is, our lives run according to God's timing and plan. Yet, we often fall into thinking that we're in the driver's seat when it comes to life. We make plans without consulting God and then expect God to bless our efforts after the fact. Sometimes our "solo" plans line up with God's plan. But typically they don't, and we end up discouraged, disappointed, frustrated and unprepared for the circumstances in which we find ourselves. So I was thankful for James's reminder to seek God's direction in all of our visions for the future and the plans we make. His words of instruction brought to mind Proverbs 16:9, which tells us:

"The heart of man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps."

What's your approach when it comes to making plans (for next week, next month, next year)? Is seeking God's will and direction your first action as you plan for the future? Are the words "if the Lord wills" part of your thinking as you work toward determining the best course of action for your life? Tami

Tami, what a great refresher course to remind us that God does have a plan for our lives.
We make plans according to what is God's will.
May I intentionally ask the Lord what is His will for each day.
Not my will, but thy will be done! S\This should be my morning! prayer
