Giants

Today's reading: 2 Samuel 21:15-22

In these final verses of 2 Samuel 21, we get a recap of a number of extraordinary battle encounters that took place with the Philistines. Each confrontation mentioned is with a Philistine who was a giant or a descendant of a giant. But the size and appearance of these "super" men didn't deter David or his men because they knew and trusted that God was fighting for and with them. What a great and timely reminder that with God, nothing is impossible. There truly are no giants that we can't face and overcome when we're following God and drawing on His strength. Thank you, God!!

What "giant" (a person, a situation, a fear) are you currently facing? Will you turn your "giant" over to God and then trust Him to help you face and overcome it? What encouragement did you draw from these verses? Tami

My fear today is being honest with one of my employees and having the courage to speak to this person about uncomfortable things. I will trust in God that He will allow this conversation to happen naturally and in love so that the after-effect is open communication about what is failing in this employee’s performance and how I can genuinely help. It is easy to let things slide if it means that there will be no confrontation. This story reminds me that I can face confrontation with God’s support- his loving little pushes to the front of the room that say, “You got this. You know what to do, now go do it. I got your back. If the words don’t come, I will give you the words.”

Tami, you have made both I and II Samuel an interesting study that can help each of us in our personal spiritual walk. You have done an marvelous awesome job!! Thanks!!

Tami "they knew and trusted that God was fighting for and with them. What a great and timely reminder that with God, nothing is impossible. There truly are no giants that we can't face and overcome when we're following God and drawing on His strength. Thank you, God!!" I say Amen to your thoughts!

From Matthew Henry's commentary, I share some
from it:
"David fainted, but he did not flee; though his strength failed him, he bravely kept his ground, and then God sent him this help in the time of need, which, though brought him by his junior and inferior, he thankfully accepted, and, with a little recruiting, gained his point, and came off a conqueror."

This is a beautiful picture of leadership and courage.
David was old and it was time to step back and let another stand in his place although we see David was willing to face another giant with the Lord. In this last time, David had faithful servants who helped him win the victory.

Giants are used by Satan to keep us from focusing on the LORD as our strength.

I need to be reminded often that these battles with the ENEMY giants are won when I surrender my will, trust and obey to win them through Christ Who strengthens me!
