Today's reading: 1 Samuel 30:1-15

As David and his men return to their home city of Ziklag, they are met with a shocking and horrific scenario. In their absence, the Amalekites have attacked Ziklag, burning the city and carrying off all the women and families. Distressed, David and his men weep until they are physically unable to shed further tears. But David doesn't remain in this emotional state very long. In the middle of this time of seeming despair, He turns to God for strength and direction. These words came across powerfully to me this morning.

"But David strengthened himself in the LORD his God" (vs. 6).

How has God strengthened you when you or your family has experienced crisis? How would you explain or describe God being your strength to someone who is observing you go through a difficult situation? Tami

God has strengthened me and my family through the Word of God by reading it, hearing it from the pulpit, radio and TV and individuals who "just happen" to be there at the right time!

David is refreshed and strengthen through the Word of God.
We also see a young Egyptian who was near death for the lack of food and water who is used by God to help David and his men to reunite with their families.

God can use each person to strength, encourage and instruct others, they sure have been used to help my family many times.

I would share with them my personal testimonies of how God supplied our needs when we were met by strangers to help us in our time of need!

Here are a few examples:

I was sent a check which was a result of a class action suit from my previous employment. Before leaving this place, I had NOT even signed up for this lawsuit. But God did use it to supply our need!

Another time, my husband needed an emergency surgery (abdominal aortic aneurysm) and we were in a small hospital and God had the perfect surgeon for him! The surgeon was a specialist from a larger city and had moved recently!! Yes, it was a successful surgery!

Yes, God does strengthen us!
