Representing God

| | Comments (2)

Today's reading: 1 Samuel 17:38-58

From the moment he arrives on the battle ground, David is an outstanding representative of God. As I started reading our passage, it hit me that David's decision to stand up to and face Goliath truly provides us with a wonderful example as we represent and stand up for Christ in the world today. So I started jotting down the things I noticed from David's example that I could put into practice. Here are a few of the things I came up with:

  • He was confident in God
  • He didn't hesitate
  • He didn't concern himself with comparisons
  • He didn't question the situation
  • He used the tools he was fimilar with
  • He "ran toward the battle"
  • He remained humble
  • He finished strong

What encouraged you the most from David's example? What's one thing you learned from David's example about representing God that you can put into practice? Tami

Tami, you have an impressive list which is all true about David.

Yes, as you say, David remained humble as I see him being bold.
He used what he had tried and tested namely his sling and smooth stones with success.( vs. 39) He knew that he could trust the Lord to use his skills/talent to accomplish what God had already promised Israel.

No doubt David had a personal relationship with the Lord that He KNEW that he could trust the Lord to help destroy Goliath, because
God had helped him kill the lion and bear which could be considered his "giant" training!

"For the battle is the Lord's, and he will give you into our hand.”

I need to remember the battle is the Lord and He will get the Victory!

I like that he was so confident that he wasn’t swayed by anybody else’s opinion. Not even the kings.
