Foundation and Core

Today's reading: Psalm 97:1-12

Woven throughout Psalm 97 are a number of phrases and references to God being righteous. Verse 2 tells us that "righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne," and then in verse 6 we see "the heavens proclaim his righteousness..." What a comfort to know that God's foundation--His core and substance--is good, upright and just.

What encouragement and/or comfort did you draw from Psalm 97? What do verses 2 and 6 reveal about how God views and values doing right? Tami

Bob Deffinbaugh said it better than I could
"The righteousness of God is particularly important in relation to salvation. In Romans 3, Paul points out God not only justifies sinners (that is, He declares them righteous), but He is also shown to be just (righteous) in the process:"

God's righteousness and justice can cause me to fear.
But because of Jesus Who forgives sinners who have confess their sins are made right and just because of Him.
This brings great joy and comfort to all believers!!
Thank You,LORD

God's righteousness is a fact (v. 2) and His heavens proclaim it (v. 6). Therefore, we have no excuse in the world to ignore God's righteousness nor to ignore our own lack of righteousness. He has sent a clear message to us; we can acknowledge that with fear and humbly come to Him. But how righteous God is to have promised a savior, then to have made good that promise in sending the Lord Jesus Christ, the embodiment of righteousness for us. It is interesting that in the world today, many scientists point to aspects of the universe and draw conclusions about it, but I don't think I have ever heard one refer to learning of God's righteousness from the universe. Why? Maybe it is because we as a society today look only at the physical aspects of the universe, and do not draw on its spiritual aspect so much. That is a thought provoking question you pose, Tami. I had been thinking about this lately, and there you are. Thank you!
