Healing Power

| | Comments (3)

Today's reading: Proverbs 12:18

"There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts, but the tongue of the wise brings healing" (Proverbs 12:18).

There are a number of things I like about Proverbs 12:18--the descriptions used and how they immediately bring clear and understandable images to mind, the message conveyed of the power of our words and how they can be harmful or restorative, and lastly, the point that a wise person will choose to offer words (in content and in tone) that bring healing.

On a scale of 1-10 (1 being low and 10 being high), where would you rate yourself with regard to using "healing words" in the past week? How can and will you improve this number going forward? Who in your circle of influence needs to hear some "healing words" from you? Tami

Most of the time to most of those around i use healing words..But there are occasions when emotionally worked up, words of healing do not come instead it even become words of hurt.. I feel at such moments i tend to talk more.. and later regret.. need some help in this...

Synthia,

Thanks for your post. Believe me, you are not alone. As James 3 tells us, our tongues are a restless evil, full of deadly poison, not able to be tamed. Ugh! Knowing and being aware of our emotional state is half the battle when it comes to our words. Don't know if you saw the January 15 blog where I wrote about the "ten second rule"? If not, take a look at it. I've found that if I can hold my tongue for even a few seconds before responding, 9 times out of 10 I'm able to make a wiser choice with my words. Keeping our words positive is a constant challenge and one that takes intentionality on our part. Sounds like you do that often. Hang in there and thanks for being part of P4! :-)

True I had missed the Jan 15 blog.. Read it.The 10sec rule is truly insightful. Not just delaying the response but using those moments to send a request heavenward..
Thank you Tami.
