Thinking About Honor, Part 3

| | Comments (3)

Today's reading: Proverbs 22:4

"The reward for humility and fear of the Lord is riches and honor and life."

Why is having humility necessary for us to have honor? What does this verse show about how God views and values having honor? Tami

Humility is the attitude that results in leaning and learning brings knowledge. One cannot know about God unless one is humble. Knowledge of God results in "fear of the Lord". We respect God, our attitude to God is one of reverence, we worship God, we follow his instructions for our life. These actions result in happiness, joyful hearts, a good life and also eternal life. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, Pr. 1:7.

God can use us only when we realize that we must depend on Him because we cannot do anything without Him. That should cause us to be humble before Him to be used of Him Like Jesus, Who is God. He humbled Himself as a man. If humility was important to Him, how much more important should humility be to us? Only then will He give riches and honor and life.

This is not a guarantee of monetary riches--maybe riches are the riches of Christ, worth so much more.
