Pursuing Forgiveness

| | Comments (1)

Today's reading: Psalm 51:1-19

With a humble heart, David cries out to God asking Him for forgiveness. One of the things I like about this psalm is the perspective it provides about sin. I'm also drawn to the example it puts before us of honestly talking with God about our heart and actions. In verse 4 David says, "Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight..." This lets us know that whenever we sin, we are first and foremost sinning against and offending God. What a good reminder to help us think more about our actions and hopefully sin less often going forward. Then after confessing and putting forth his sin, David makes this beautiful request of God in verse 10. "Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me."

Is it your practice to regularly seek God's forgiveness? Why is this important? What most impacted you from David's example? Tami

Tami, I was noticing words like "truth, justified, clean(pure) both in Psa.51 and Phil.4:8.

I need to be more regular and intentional in asking forgiveness and being more thankful daily and throughout the day.
It is so important to be in a right relationship with the Lord so He can use a clean vessel for His honor and glory all the days of our lives.

David knew that he was sinning against God and it was God Who could restore him to the joy of God's salvation. David was very open to the Lord about his sins and knew that God knows our sins and is willing to forgive us.

May I have a willing spirit to confess all of my sins and be willing to ask the Lord reveal sins that I am not aware of or not willing to confess to Him daily.
