Today's reading: Genesis 50:1-14; Romans 12:15

After Jacob delivers his parting words to each of his sons, he passes away. Joseph is brokenhearted and openly weeps over the death of his father. Over the next several months the grieving process continues, concluding with the burial of Jacob in the cave of the field at Machpelah located in Canaan.

Adjusting to the loss of Jacob was difficult for Joseph. But thankfully, he didn't have to walk through the grief process alone. He had a good amount of support, from his natural family but especially from his Egyptian friends and co-workers. What a comfort it must have been for Joseph when the "servants of Pharaoh, the elders of his household, all the elders of the land of Egypt, the household of Joseph, his brothers, and his father's household" (vs. 7-8) came alongside to walk and join with Joseph during this difficult time.

Who, in your circle of friends or family could you encourage by being attentive to their needs (coming alongside to rejoice or weep with them)? Why is having another person join us as we're experiencing life's ups and downs so important and helpful? Tami
