Forget the Stuff

Today's reading: Psalm 49:1-20

With Christmas fast approaching and ad after ad delivering the message--we need more, we need bigger, we need better--I found the words of Psalm 49 wise and timely.

"Man in his pomp will not remain; he is like the beasts that perish" (vs. 12).

"Be not afraid when a man becomes rich, when the glory of his house increases. For when he dies he will carry nothing away; his glory will not go down after him" (vs. 16-17).

What helps you keep an eternal perspective in this material, money-focused world? What encouragement did you draw from Psalm 49, and why? Tami

I have found that when I find myself getting too money focused and too focused on the stuff of Christmas that I turn back and see all that the father has delivered me from financial crisis and pride. Then my heart is quickly quickened to refocus on the truth and keep my on eyes on Jesus.
Praise the Lord for his mercy and grace.

Verse 15. The promise that God will redeem us and take us to Himself is a wonderful promise, indeed.

What helps to give me perspective is remembering my daughter Renee, who passed away at 19 years of age from cystic fibrosis. While she lived with this life threatening disease she never stopped showing the love of God and love for her fellow man. She is my inspiration. She is my heart!

I try to remember that God could take everything away in the blink of an eye. It's only stuff. I try to remember what's more important: helping others, loving others, being kind & generous, and especially for my kids-leaving a godly legacy and great memories which can't be taken away!
