Comfort In All

Today's reading: 2 Corinthians 1:1-11

As we head into 2 Corinthians, Paul starts off with a lesson on affliction, but with the positive perspective that when we experience affliction, suffering or persecution, this allows us to experience God's comfort. We then, in turn, can draw on that experience to comfort others who are suffering.

What does this passage reveal about the persecution of Christ followers at the time Paul was writing this letter? How does hearing from a friend that God has sustained, provided for and comforted them in and through rough times encourage you? Tami

Persecution wasn't the exception for early believers; it was the rule, by and large. Even today, there's more persecution in the world than ever. We often lose sight of this here in the Western Hemisphere, but it's still a reality for so many believers around the globe.

I find it to be vitally important to realize that God works through our struggles and comforts us not just for our own comfort, but so that we can take that help and comfort, turn around, and share it with those who are in similar situations. God can and desires to take our greatest pains, tragedies, and struggles and turn them into blessings--not just for ourselves, but for others, as well.
