Today's reading: Proverbs 24:1-34

So far in Proverbs we've read a bunch of verses telling us to be truthful with our words. Definitely wise instruction. But I particularly liked the way that instruction was presented to us in verse 26. "Whoever gives an honest answer kisses the lips." These few words immediately brought the genuineness of a loving kiss to my mind, which provided me with a slightly different than my normal perspective on speaking the truth.

In your experience, what are the benefits of being truthful in all that you say? Verse 26 describes an honest answer like a kiss. How might you describe giving an honest answer? Tami

I find that giving an honest answer to some people will cause a lot of problems, because they really do not want to hear it.
We are bring up our ten year old granddaughter and with the young mom's they really do not want to hear what I have to say even if they ask.

I've had similar experiences to Ginger--just this morning, in fact. I think it comes down to the difference between the worse (in Proverbs, those seeking to honor Good in every aspect of their life) and the foolish (in Proverbs, those whose actions and attitudes display a concern for themselves above God and others). The wise will accept a truthful answer. The foolish, in the other hand, we'll often keep pressing until that either hear and get what they want, or will shut down entirely.

Regardless, we need to strive for truth.

Ginger and Brian,

Appreciate your candid responses, and pointing out that speaking truthfully can be difficult on several levels. Even so, as Brian put it, we need to strive for truth. Thanks for being part of P4! Tami W.
