Living for Christ

Today's reading: Romans 12:9-13

Since we've been in Proverbs for two weeks now, this week we're taking a short break and looking at a variety of scripture passages on being a Christ-follower. Romans 12:9-21 is filled with direction and instructions from Paul on what our lives should look like as we follow Christ. Since this is such a rich passage, I choose to focus on just verses 9-13 today. Then tomorrow, we'll look at verses 14-21.

Every single one of the instructions in verses 9-13 were encouraging, but "outdo one another in showing honor" spoke a little louder to me than the others this morning. I came away from my reading thinking about how I can be more intentional (today and this week) about building other people up with my words and actions, and also be intentional when it comes to putting other's interests before my own.

What did God impress on your heart from these verses today? What's your response plan for the week? Tami

"love must be sincere" stands out to me. love- 1.an intense feeling of deep affection. sincere-1.free from pretense or deceit; proceeding from genuine feelings
This is a very strong command for us and shouldn't be used casually for half-heartedly. This makes me re-evaluate my sincere love for Christ and for others.

Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.

On so many fronts, this is applicable to me, especially this week. So, I'll arrive to maintain joy, patience, and faithfulness with the Lord's help, and to encourage others towards them.

What stands out to me here is we need to love with no strings attached , these verses also makes me evaluate how I do in this area and I know at times not good.

The verse that really got me was verse 11, 'Not slothful in business, fervent in the Spirit, serving the Lord.' Sometimes we can get lazy and tired of our routine or whatever but to serve the Lord is to be fervent in whatever out hands find to do and to do it as if we are working directly for the Lord. Hence regardless of whatever, by the grace of God, let us keep on keeping on.
