Lessons from a Boy

| | Comments (3)

Today's reading: Luke 2:39-52

We typically look to Jesus the man for examples of how to live. Our passage today looks at Jesus the boy. But if you read these verses closely, He's already giving us examples even at a very young age.

So what examples did you see from Jesus today? Tami

His Father's will is already his priority, but he submits to his earthly parents.

Clearly, He's already been a student of the Word and has sought the Lord from a young age.

Each time I read these verses of scripture I am amazed at how I get a deeper understanding of God's word.
Prior to verse 40, the Bible records the birth of Jesus and circumstances surrounding his birth. we do not hear or read about the first 12 years of his life. yet the Bible clearly states that after the circumcision and dedication of Christ to God on his 8th day on earth 'the Child grew and became strong in spirit, filled with wisdom; and the grace (favor and spiritual blessing) of God was upon Him'. We don't have to wait to reach a certain age before we decide to grow in God. It's never too early to teach young children about Christ. They are never too young to understand. Growing in the word leads to a stronger spirit and makes us filled with wisdom.
There' so much to learn from these verses but I will point out something else. Christ was obedient to his parents. This is so critical. He knew his purpose here on earth and He knew He was suppose to be at the synagogue teaching but yet He obeyed his parents and followed them back to Nazareth. No iota of disobedience and rebellion. and he increased in wisdom, in stature and years, and in favor with God and man. I believe the reason he continued to increase was because He was never disobedient to his parents
