Poor Decision

Today's reading: Judges 8:22-35

I'm always saddened when I reach the end of the account of Gideon. As I read this story one more time today I was struck by the devastating impact one poor decision had on Gideon's family and the nation of Israel for years to come.

Based on today's passage, how important is it for us to guard our thinking and actions on the heels of a spiritual victory? Looking back over the entire account of Gideon, what was one important thing God impressed on your heart? Tami

It is very important to guard our hearts (our eyes, mouth, and ears too) because Satan is on the earth and so is sin! Sin is everywhere always tempting us and trying to get us to fail. All it takes is for us to let our guard down and boom! He attacks again. Satan will never give up so we must not either. Protect your heart and focus on Christ and let him guide your footsteps.

If studying Scriptural accounts can show us anything, it's that some of the most fierce opposition comes right after a major spiritual victory. Gideon is just one example.

Looking back over the entire account, what continues to strike me most is God's patience with us. He guides us along, patiently taking our frailness into account, yet constantly empowering us to persevere and do His will despite that same frailness.
