Model It

Philippians 2:1-11

Paul's charge in Philippians 2:1-11 is for us to model Christ in all areas, but specifically in humility. I totally get that, but know that to accomplish this I have to deal with my human nature which seems to automatically jump to "me-centered" thinking. So being humble and responding in humility is going to take some effort and intentionality on my part, but it is so worth it.

When you think about being humble, what examples come to mind? What do you do to get an attitude of humility? Tami

I shared This awhile ago but think it is worth repeating.
This is taped to my desk as a daily reminder.

God's job is
to exalt us.
Our job is
to humble ourselves.

If we try to do God's
job for Him.
He will have to do our
job for us.

You're right humility is an effort on our part! ...living so contrary to life and human nature, this side of Heaven!!

I like Andrew Murray's definition of it best; “Humility is perfect quietness of heart. It is to expect nothing, to wonder at nothing that is done to me, to feel nothing done against me. It is to be at rest when nobody praises me, and when I am blamed or despised. It is to have a blessed home in the Lord, where I can go in and shut the door, and kneel to my Father in secret, and am at peace as in a deep sea of calmness, when all around and above is trouble.”

This is how the Lord lived, and wants us to live as well. And like you mentioned Tami; "...it is so worth it"

Thanks Ed and Victor! Humility seems out of my grasp much of the time. I can act humble, pray humbly, but I still think 'ME". I guess I try to 'take every thought captive' and if it is not pleasing to God, I ask for forgiveness and give thanks that He is still working in my heart to perfect me.

Well put Victor and Ed, for myself humility is tough no matter how hard i try i always try and please myself first.I want to be in a place where i serve god first and do His will not mine i go through the motions but its a hard process but I also know its an ongoing process. praise God!

Growing up in the church, I've seen so many who have modeled humility very well. Their example of what humility looks like is encouraging and inspiring.
