Joy in Forgiveness

| | Comments (3)

Luke 15:11-32

As I read the parable of the prodigal son once again today, I was struck by the joy surrounding the father forgiving his wayward son and the son seeking forgiveness from his father. It's pretty amazing how such a hurtful situation could result in full restoration of the damaged relationship and in such great joy.

What does this parable show you about the power of forgiveness? How have you experienced restoration and joy when you've forgiven someone or been forgiven? Tami

The contrasts between the words "lost = dead" & "found = alive" shows me the Lord's amazing compassion. The father's running to meet his lost son, is God's eagerness/willingness to save us as we turn to Him!

There was a time when I was in college that I made some lousy decisions in terms of what to do with my life, to put it mildly. Of course, my father knew better, but ultimately, much like the father in this parable, was willing to let me go my own way, painful as it was.

Much like the son in this parable, I eventually came to my senses, too, after a rude awakening. I had no choice left but to go to my father for forgiveness and help. And, just like the father in the parable, and the Father in Heaven, my father didn't say, "I told you so," or hesitate to do anything less than go all out to help and restore me.

forgiveness is not just saying the word, but also backing the word with
action that is where the real power to forgive come in. The ultimate forgiveness for me is for God to have his only son and to send him to die for me when, i was the one who was wrong.
