Personal Restoration

Psalm 85

Psalm 85 is a petitioning of the Lord for restoration. The psalmist is looking back, recalling a time when God restored Israel and asking God to respond similarly in the present. It gives us a glimpse of the thinking and mindset of the writer, as well as yet another good look at God.

So what can we learn and put into practice from this psalm? What does Psalm 85 show us about God? Tami

Longing for the previous favour of God, the psalmist noted 2 keys elements I saw in vs 8,9 "I will hear what God the Lord will speak: for he will speak peace unto his people, and to his saints: but let them not turn again to folly.Surely his salvation is nigh them that fear him; that glory may dwell in our land"

To "hear" and to "fear" is what is needed; to "hear" God through prayer (and for us Bible reading) & to reverently "fear" (and respect) God. These were needed in the days past - and they are sorely needed in our days as well!

Psalm 85 shows us a God who is willing, able, and even eager to hear and forgive His people when they turn to Him. The Psalmist, knowing this, determines to live a life pleasing to Him, realizing that God's restoring, reviving presence will be realized as a result.
