big gift

2 Corinthians 9:1-15

God wants us to be generous with what we have--for the benefit of others and as an act of thanksgiving to Him. And, when we're generous with others, God is generous, in return, with us.

So this passage got me thinking about the benefits of being generous. One of the biggest benefits I've found is that looking for opportunities to be generous to others immediately shifts my focus off of me and my circumstances. So my life becomes less about me and more about others. Plus, when I'm helping someone out or giving to a ministry or toward a needy cause, I feel more in tune with God and it's an encouragement to me.

So what are some benefits you've experienced through being generous to others? What can you do to be generous this week? And to whom? Tami

Our generosity also has the effect of turning others' thoughts towards the God whom we serve. How or if they decide to act on this is between them and the Lord, but as we serve Him in our generosity, He will be seen by others, and He will be glorified as a result.

What a blessing it is to be able to give to others both with our time and assets. We need to practice giving what we have also received through Christ. My husband and I have learned 'we can't out give God'. We give joy-we get back joy... we give peace, we get back peace...we give love, we get back love. We give financial gifts and God is glorified through all of it.

The Lord gave us so much, how can we not follow His pattern!? As Brian noted; our giving effects others in a positive way.

I am hard of hearing. I have decided to learn American Sign Language. One of the things that gets me excited is being able to help others by knowing sign language. Being generous does make our life much more positive and exciting.

Thanks so much Tami for running this Powered by 4. I have been doing it for about two months and now have three other friends joining me on daily basis. We share each others comments on the daily study.

Dean--thanks for letting us know you're using and enjoying P4. Thanks, too, for the encouragement. I never know who is doing what, so getting positive feedback is always appreciated! Tami W.
