Lover of???

2 Timothy 3:1-17

Paul gives us quite a list of attitudes and behaviors in 2 Timothy 3:1-5 that are not pleasing to God. I didn't see one thing in this list that isn't rampant today. Watch some television, go to the movies, surf the net and you'll find them all. Now I'd love to say that as Christians we no longer have to concern ourselves with these behaviors, but that's just not the case. We aren't immune to any of the sinful things on Paul's list and they can and will creep in and take us out of the game if we're not careful.

So how do we stay a strong "lover of God"? How do we guard against slipping into these ungodly attitudes and behaviors? Tami W.

By staying in the word of God,and by being careful what we watch and read because today theyre are so many things acceptable that never were before.

I agree with Mark. The only thing I would add is music. The lyrics to many songs are very suggestive or provoke angry thoughts and attitudes.

How do we stay a strong "lover of God?" For me my time with the Lord is what helps me. My time to praise & worship Him, spending time in the Word, listening as He speaks, praying - sharing my heart with Him. A time of fellowship in prayer, not just asking, but listening for His still small voice to speak to my heart.

My prayer is that of the psalmist: "Make me know Your ways, O Lord; teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation; for You I wait all the day... Guard my soul and deliever me; do not let me be ashamed, for I take refuge in You. Let integrity and uprightness preserve me, for I wait for You (Psalm 27:4-5,20-21, NASB).

How do I guard against slipping into those ungodly behaviors & attitudes? Obedience to the Word of God! Reliance on the Holy Spirit! I praise the Lord for a godly husband & friends who help me stay faithful.

The closer we are to Him, the further away we are from the world.
