We've all heard it, maybe we've even thought it or said it. My business is just that--mine. And what I choose to do isn't anyone else's concern. So many times we don't give much, if any, thought to how our actions might impact others. So we do what seems right for us at the moment. But that can be problematic, especially when sinful behavior is part of the mix. The account of Judah and Tamar demonstrates that pretty clearly. Judah didn't keep his promise to Tamar because it suited him. But as we see, his broken promise snowballed into more and more sin.
So what did this passage show you about the devastating effect of sin? Tami W.

Sin is far-reaching in its scope. Our actions do, indeed, have an affect on those around us.
On another note related to this story, though, I love to point out that, out of this jumbled mess of a sinful scenario came the Messiah. Matthew 1:3 points out that this sin-ridden conception and scenario produced direct descendants of Jesus--one of many examples of how God can take anything and use it for His glory.
The worst part of sin is it will eventually catch up with you and the consequences can be more devastating. As we seen in this passage two men died because of their sin. Now let's put it into today's culture. As long as sin continues in the direction it is going we will soon see God's judgement on ourselves and on this country.
I try to examine myself on a daily to a regular basis, personally I don't want to see God's judgement, but if brings me closer to God than so be it. Also if it means Jesus is going to take His church home so be it.
