1 Thessalonians 4:1-8

Paul, talking about a life that is pleasing to God, very plainly tells us in 1 Thessalonians 4:3 that we are to "abstain from sexual immorality."

"For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality; that each one of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor, not in the passion of lust like the Gentiles who do not know God." 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5

So how do we live out 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5 when we're surrounded by the worldly message that sex is good, it's fun and if it feels right to you, you should be participating in it? What are you allowing to come into your life (or your families' life) through music, television, reading, internet, movies, cell phones? Tami W.

This is not easy because you can only control so much of what your kids hear through the media, and computer. I don't suscribe to cable and haven't for a long time, but that isn't the resolve as the content of programs has really taken a down hill slide especially, in the last ten years. I still think you have to express your opinions on sexual issues and let them know where you stand on the subject. I think we have all turned our heads away from God's instructions when it comes to having childrn and raising them in this world and this could partly be to blame on the way past generations have avoided the topic and let birth control and technology take the reins. Then there is the other side of having multiple children and not taking responsibility for them, leaving it up to society to do the job.Everyone seems to have no problem just living together without marriage, having children and letting the system take care of it. Its so confusing and difficult and often leaves me wondering what have we done as a nation?

LISA
I AGREE WITH YOU 100%. THE BREAKDOWN IN FAMILY LIFE COULD NOT HAVE COME ABOUT AT A WORSE TIME THAN IN THE AGE OF INCREDIBLE TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCES.

WHEN THIS IS COUPLED WITH GROWING SELFISHNESS WHERE "AS LONG AS I AM OK THEN EVERYBODY ELSE IS ON THEIR OWN".

WE WERE WARNED HOWEVER OF THE TIME WHEN CHILDREN WOULD BE HAVING CHILDREN AND SOLOMON DID SAY "ALL IS VANITY". SO, LET US CONTINUE TO PRAY FOR OUR WORLD AND SPREAD THE GREAT NEWS OF JESUS THE CHRIST. FORWARD ON BACK TO THE BIBLE.

REGARDS IN CHRIST

CECIL

Well, first off, sex IS good when kept within its proper Biblical context. We can't let the world's attempts to skew the message to one extreme way trick us into skewing it to the opposite extreme. That's exactly how the serpent suckered Eve into his trap in the garden.

My experience throughout life has been that, if you are teaching Biblical value consistently in your home, and, just as importantly, living them out in front of the children, you'll be teaching them how to love, seek, and desire the Lord and His will for their lives themselves, along with parental guidance. When this occurs, the questions of restricting this and cutting off access to that, by and large, take care of themselves mostly, as the children simply don't desire those things that are in-your-face sinful, and have learned to discern the messages the world throws at them otherwise.

This was my experience growing up, and it's made all the difference in my life. On the other hand, I see people I grew up with, and children and teenagers today, who grew up in Christian households, but were never instilled with that desire to know and love the Lord for themselves, and instead rode the coattails of parents, only to fall slowly away (and, in some cases, outright rebel) when leaving the home. Seems that, if we teach people to love Christ and discern, it goes a long way--at least, that's been the experience in my family.

Lisa I also agree with you and we went about 2 years without cable because there is nothing on worth watching anymore, we just buy Christian, family type movies, and it's better to get the news off the internet from the right source's and the computer stay's in the living room and not allowed in any bedrooms.

First, one must make the choice as to what he/she wants to do. Do you want to do what glorifies God or self. I have and I am making the choice to do what pleases God. Most of my friends are unbelievers and think that I am to narrow minded. The truth is they know what I believe and where I stand as far as to do what is pleasing to God and even though they think I am narrow minded they have respect for me. By the way we live gives us the right to share our faith, but if we are not living according to what glorifies God and live pleasing self our testimony is useless.
Secondly, what one fills his or her mind with will act out on it. So if you watch shows on tv that show ungodly life styles and sexual pleasures you tend to follow you what you see or if you are being teased about being pure you tend to give into pressure. Again you must make a decison on what glorifies God and leave the world behind you or give into self pleasure and not please God.

Bible clearly states the sexually immoral will not inherent the Kingdom of heaven.

No cable for 10ys, no TV for almost 2yrs.

I don't go to the festivals the city has because there is sexual immortality on the streets. PDA
Downtown has scantily clad little girls and boys everywhere.....
