Unfold to Understand

Psalm 119:129-136

I had the opportunity to speak to a group of ladies last weekend in Mountain Home, Arkansas on growing spiritually through Bible engagement. (Arkansas was beautiful, by the way, both the countryside and the people.) So the moment I read Psalm 119:130 "The unfolding of your words gives light; it imparts understanding to the simple," my heart did a little jump because that process of unfolding moving to understanding is a wonderful description of Bible engagement.

There's not a one size fits all way of engaging God's Word (receiving/taking it in, reflecting on it, and then responding). So I'd like to know how you "unfold" scripture? What's your favorite way to meet God and learn about Him through His Word? Tami W.

I take in God's Word from a variety of sources on a daily basis--following a reading plan with my congregation, personal devotions like those found around here, etc.

As I do so, I ask the Lord to open up and illuminate His Word to me, show me what it means, and how I can make application in my life. At times, what's revealed is simple. At times, it's profound. In any event, there's always benefit to be had from being in His Word.

Hi. I liked verse 3: "I open my mouth and pant, because I long for your commandments." I hunger & thirst for God's word! They are choice tasty morsels of nourishment and comfort for my soul. My favorite way to meet God is quietly; alone with His word. Just Him & me. Amen?
As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God.
My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. Psalm 42:1-2

I believe verse 136 is why I am depressed.

I only have peace when I am in his word I listen to it while traveling to work, I read it on a calendar I keep at work, and reading powered by 4. Sometimes I hear his word just in the people I in counter it is all divinely ordered and I am forever grateful. Praise God!

I do devotions every day, but I started a while ago to try and memorize one verse a week. It doesn't sound like much, but in a year it's 52 memorized verses that I did not have before. It is not overwhelming in any way and I CAN do it! What I have found is that verse unfailingly ends up serving me so many times and I can use it like an arrow in my quiver to boost me or someone else or use it for whatever demands may come into my day.

Rachel I think God 'expects' to pray for such. He see each tear that falls And hears me when I call. In fact: He knows my name
He knows my every thought. Keep praying my friend!

Intentionally. I make a plan. First when i wake, i thank Him for this day He's created and The Breath of Life He breathed into me. Then I seek His Word.

Psalm 119:129 Your testimonies are wonderful; therefore my soul keeps them

I prefer to know what the Bible says about the Bible. Systematic Theology - Bibliology.

I develop no doctrine from extra-Biblical sources.

I most enjoy group Bible study. I came to faith after going throughout the 5 books of Moses at B.S.F.

We're saved by The Word, hearing it.
An encounter with His Word. Conviction of His Love and Grace, but also of our Need.

Not by a feeling, emotions come and go.

130 The unfolding of your words gives light; it imparts understanding to the simple.

Simple I am.

133 Keep steady my steps according to your promise, and let no iniquity get dominion over me.

All we experience comes to us through His hands.

Grace and Peace, until Judgment Day
