Luke 8:1-18
The parable of the seeds is about God's Word in different scenarios. But instead of focusing on the "seed," I took a little time to think about the sower because I am one and so are you if you're a follower of Christ. Once we receive Christ as Savior, one of our jobs (and a highly important one) is to share Christ and God's Word with others everywhere, just like the sower here in Luke 8.
So take a few minutes and think about yourself as a sower, a dispenser or distributor of the message of hope found only in God's Word. What kind of sower are you? How much are you dispensing? Where are you dispensing? And finally, what does this parable reveal about what you can expect as you're out "sowing" for the Lord? Tami W.

Sometimes I am to worried about where i sow the seeds of God's salvation story. What are My (not God's) benefits of sowing seeds on rocking soil (vs 6)? Am i a number cruncher and only want to sow seeds on fertile soil where many will receive Jesus Christ(count the numbers - Look how many folks I brought to the lord). Instead i should allow the Holy Spirit to guide me and sow the seeds where He wants,
Jesus is the key to our understanding of all things and He possesses all spiritual insight and gives to those who listen and is grounded in the Word of God. vs.18 For whoever has, more will be given to him. He is not talking about money here, He is talking about spiritual insights. WOW, I love the Word of God. He is the one to reveal things to us. Stay grounded in the Word, so it will not be taken from us.
Luke 8:1-2 tells us about the women who followed Jesus. What privilege and opportunity these women had to walk with Jesus, serving him, experiencing miracles, witnessing to others and continuing to learn from him along the way.
These women came from different backgrounds but had a common thread that bound them - God valued them inspite of their inadequacies and limitations.
These women may not have been in the forefront of Jesus ministry, but their tireless work for little recognition is an example we all can follow.
Just know whatever you do, do it to the glory of God!
Have A Christ Centered Day!!

Good morning!
Yes, we are sowers. I'm often focusing on the soils, instead of the seed/the precious Word of God. Where do I sow? In church (I am a pastor of a small church), I sow in restaurants, having developed relationships with several of the waitresses, I sow to my grandchildren & friends, to my neighbors. The Word is sown & planted every Monday afternoon at a local assisted living facility.
Jesus told us to share the good news of the gospel; He gave us the Holy Spirit, who is a great helper (especially when we think we can't, HE CAN & HE WILL). We should praise the Lord because He has given us the blesing of His written Word.
The hardest place to sow seems to be in the church & to religious people, so ingrained in their own opinions & traditions, sometimes they are hesitant to look at the Bible, and sad to say they don't want to know what the Word has to say for life & godliness, but I will keep sowing & preaching to the people who are holding on to earning their salvation, depending on things like church membership, confirmation, baptistm instead of a personal relationship with the Lord Jesu Christ.
Thank you for calling our attention to the fact that we are a sower of the precious seed!
(By the way, I am a born again lady, serving as a pastor of a liberal denomination, in a Bible-believing,teaching church).
Our church is having classes about evangelism. Not only the 'how to' but for encouragement to those who are reaching out more. We know the Holy Spirit is who will bring someone to Christ-but if they never hear or see the gospel.... I agree with Connie, we often focus on the soil instead of the seed. I'm guilty myself of saying 'They'll never listen" I love to garden and think sometimes that by ministering to others I am removing the weeds that grow up-so they can receive all God has for them.
Connie, take care of your flock-make sure they will always hear the Gospel message. We also belonged to a Bible-believing, teaching church whose denomination became more liberal. When our minister retired we were expected to have a minister who did not believe in Jesus as the son of God (He became God later), believed in abortion (a woman is worth more to God if she doesn't have illegitimate children) and believed the Bible is a good book, but not accurate. It was a hard time for all of us. Many of us left-some stayed. Protect your flock!!
First, I must say how blessed I am that for sometime I have been drawn to BacktothBible. It did not happen just so, it happened that the Holy Spirit drew me to BTTB. It also happens that people who I do not know and those I know share "God's-Word based" devotionals. I always check the Scripture to make sure it is in the Bible.
Through these same inspirational messages, I share with many others, family and friends and like me they have touched many lives. Persons will ask me to pray for them and my answer is always yes, but you too can pray, God wants to hear you and I have no special powers, the glory, honour and praise belongs to our Lord only.
We must keep in His Word and talk to Him and the Holy Spirit will guide us what to say, or do. For the past weeks every thing I read focuses on faith and trust, love, family and relationships- all from different sources. Sometimes just picking up the Bible and reading God's Word which speaks of what God wants from us. He does not ask much but for some reason it can be very hard, but if we focus on Him daily and not the obstacles, we will see how well things go for us taking it one day at a time.
I love sharing God's Word and feel so elated when someone writes back or calls me up to thank me. The thanks is not for me but God who reigna in me and leads me.
As long as the Lord gives me breath, I will continue to praise and thank Him and let others know about His awesomeness.
I love reading everyones imput on all of the topics in Tammi W blog. Everyone brings something different to the conversation and they are sowing seeds to many different people who are at different levels in their spiritual walk with God. That is the blessing of the Holy Spirit working in many dimensions that we cannot even begin to comprehend. I thank God for putting the people in our paths just at the right time.
The parable of the sower, to me, is a call for us to, with our words and our lives, scatter the seed of God's Word and His goodness out in all directions, like the sowers of those days would grab a handful and throw it. The seed landed in different places, but the sower's job was to keep dispensing!
The resulting crops were in God's hands. How people react to and accept the Word is nothing we have control over. We can only be faithful to dispense and leave the results to Him.
I don't understand verses 9-10. I have tried to understand, but I guess I'm not getting it. The disciples did not understand the parable until Jesus told them the symbolism. It appears that only the select are supposed to understand them. Knowing Jesus came for everyone, why would only certain people be given the privilege of understanding His words? Explainations would be appreciated.
Thanks Brian! Well said!
I have read this scripture so many times yet I never saw it it in this light. I see a sower as someone who is humble-I always think of Mary, that woman who Jesus delivered and how she showed her love and gratitude, look at the other women - they were unselfish and steadfast in their decision to follow Christ. I try to to sow seeds where ever I go. But as someone commented, it is most difficult to sow seeds to Christians - I've tried and most times I hear "yes, I already know". What I see also note from this verse is that not all the seeds we sow will yield a crop, some people will not accept the Word, for different reasons. But praise God, there are those who will with an open and determined heart. I want to be a true sower of God's Word.
I think we are called to sew unto others and it is just not by our words we also need to sew with the actions of our daily life.
An important point in the text of this scripture : These women were "providing". for them out of their means... We are to be providers of the Sowers ...
,Luke 18: 2 and also some women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities: Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out.
Luke 18: 3 and Joanna, the wife of Chuza, Herod's household manager, and Susanna, and many others, who provided for them out of their means.
18Take care then how you hear, for to the one who has, more will be given, and from the one who has not, even what he thinks that he has will be taken away."
i hope you would think about yourself as a sower, a dispenser or distributor of the message of hope found ONLY in God's Word.
What kind of sower are you?
Christ crucified and Resurrected.
How much are you dispensing? Not enough, surely.
Where are you dispensing? Working on the attitude to make this everywhere.
What does this parable reveal about what you can expect as you're out "sowing" for the Lord?
Like the talents, the one we bury will be taken away.
Grace and Peace
Thanks for your question, Rachel.
The way to understand such verses as Luke 8:9-10 is to understand what it's like to communicate the truths of God's Word to those who have set their wills against receiving these truths. For instance, at the work place, some may have so ridiculed the message that you know it fruitless to speak directly to them about spiritual truths. So when there are genuine, sincere believers around, you tell a story that they will pick up on (even if they may need a little more explanation later), but those who reject spiritual realities will have no idea what you're talking about.
There had been opportunities for the listeners to heed the words of Jesus, but they had openly rejected them. In this passage He tells a story (parable) that only true believers could pick up on.

Rachel, Did what harold say help you to understand. It took me a while to get that too. I remember when people talked to me about Jesus, and I didn't get it. It is the same when I talk to some people now. Some just don't get it. But I am planting seed and God will grow it into a harvest.
A sower of hope and love of God's word. I try to be a light and witness where-ever I go and do in life. But now with modern technology and I can plant seeds of hope, love, peace, and joy all over the world with people I know and don't know.". Make it a important business to share the gospel of Jesus everyday. Also watering the seeds planted, so God can give the increase, hundredfold!
Sowing is more about how you live your life. My mom and grandmother always said Talk is cheap. I beleive the seeds you so is how you live your life not your words although words are powerful but its how you choose do your words match the way you live?
I have people who don't know Jesus come to me and ask me to pray for them not based on what I say but how I live. They know I have something different they ask questions about my faith. Some grow some may accept Jesus. My job isn't to save that is God's but how I live the compassion I have for others that's how we really plant seeds.
Look at Jesus it wasn't what he said few understood the parables but the women trusted him they could see he was real not by his words but by his Love.
