Luke 3:1-38
John the Baptist's style was simple, but BOLD. He was honest and direct, and he delivered his message with authority combined with a sense of urgency. John was an effective communicator.
So what did you see from John about telling others about Christ? What did you learn from John's message? Tami W.

John the baptist preached repentence. He prepared the way for Christ. We have to see we need a savior, we have to see we are sinners who are in need of the Savior, before we can truly accept Christ. John is such a great example of someone who gave his all for Christ. The way he lived, he sought nothing in this world. He was completely devoted to the message of Christ. One other thing that always stood out to me about John the baptist was his preaching against the ruler of the day, Herod. He took a strong stand against the immorality of Herod.
I love the title you chose for this study...It made me smile:) This passage really spoke to me. I instantly admired John's ability to speak the truth so easily and to so many people. And to think that he was in a place of wilderness where all of this was taking place! I think many people, including myself, would be discourage by the setting alone. Let us always remember to "bloom" where we are planted, and to be bold and passionate for Christ as he was...
John preached good news that the Savior has Come.
1. He told us the importance of making a commitment to obey God and to seek and live out His will for our lives.
2. He calls us to recognize Jesus for who He really is (the King, our Savior, and Lord) and to give him the rightful reign in our hearts as we share in the blessings of His kingdom.
3. He communicates the value of affirmation
God the Father affirmed Jesus was his beloved Son in whom he was well pleased! He provides us with an example of how we ought to affirm the ones we love, especially as we see them following the will of God.

John statement, "Produce fruit in keeping with repentance" stood out to me.
When we have come to accept Christ's saving grace, our lives should reflect that fact. John's responses to the "what should we do?" questions seem to be in conjunction with that idea, too.
John knew his crowd the Pharisees and the Sadducees. He spoke to them based on his knowledge about them. Quoting from the Prophet Isaiah and the way in which he exhorted the crowd with a question, "Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come, produce fruit in keeping with repentance because John knew that they taught what they did not themselves do. John was specific, he did not beat around the bush. He told them just like it should be. Tax Collectors - don't overcharge. Soldiers - don't extort money and falsely accuse people. He was so forthright that they thought that he is the Christ.
Based on John's message, the people seems to go willingly, asking "what should they do?" His message was direct.
