Initiate the Dialogue

Luke 11:1-13

After Jesus says the Lord's Prayer, he spends a good bit of time explaining to the disciples how important it is for us to bring our requests to the Lord in prayer. And for this to happen, it requires us to initiate the dialogue and communication. "And I tell you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you" (vs. 9).

So how are you doing in the "dialogue with God" department? What's something Jesus showed you today about prayer? Tami W.

Sometimes I lose my faith when prayers that I keep praying don't come happen. It is only months or years later that I finally get the revelation as to why the prayer I was praying was answered with a "no" or a "wait". We tend to want our prayers answered immediately and sometimes that is not in the plan for us. Sometimes what we are praying for is for our best interest and not for the glory of God. We have to remember that our parents didn't give us everything we asked for either so if our earthly parents knew to sometimes say "no" certainly our heavenly Father knows when to say "no." We have to keep the faith and remember that He is ultimately in control and wants only the best for us.

One of my New Year commitments is to read E.M.Bound's books on prayer. Lord teach us to pray is the heart cry of the child of God.

After years of seeing prayer as a duty or a chore, I've come back to praying as I did in the early days of my faith -- just talking to my Father about what I think and feel. It used to be that I imagined my prayers bouncing off the ceiling instead of making it all the way through space into heaven, but I realize they don't have to go that far. God is near, He loves me and is working in my life to make me who I was created to be.

As a father of two, I especially connected with the "if you then, being evil" portion of today's text. I want to give my girls everything they need, and much of what they want (when it's best for them) -- just because I love them. God is the best Father of all, and I keep this in mind when I pray these days.

Good morning thank you, I have made changes for the new year like walking on water in faith, However still in amazement with fear that can cause me to fall in. This bible study has strengthen me FORWARD to not d ought, and the keep praying and ask for what I need for God is by my side. To thank God for the blessings he has given me and future ones. AMEN

I feel like I'm always talking to God. As a busy homeschooling mom of 4, I'm constantly calling out for wisdom and guidance. But sometimes I worry that it's not 'really' praying. You know, like just 'a sit down and have a long visit with my friend with no interruptions' kind of prayer? So I think that's my goal for 2012, to have more 'quality' prayer time.

Today's passage taught persistence in prayer. I have given up praying for certain things too soon. Understanding that praying in the will of Father God means that He will meet the request, the Lord Jesus here taught of the need to keep on praying.

As we get closer to God our prayers will be more in his will not ours and the answers would always be yes. My goal this year is to listen to God more than I talk, we have two ears and one mouth for a reason.

This is so true:):)
I can think of a prayer of my Dad's for me, to have a relationship with Christ. This did not happen for years!!!!!:):):) My Dad's prayer was a good prayer and something that is defiantly in God's will. Here is the thing, although it was good and God's will, God is not our magic gene who just snaps things into place. We would like God to do that, I know my Dad would have liked that. It was, and IS ALL in GOD'S timing not ours:):):) God's timing was perfect! :) God used a situation in my life that was very trying and through that situation, in Time, I was drawn to God and my eyes where opened like never before:):) I am so thankful, for God's perfect timing. I did not see at that time in my life that I was even going to be changed and close too God, but God did:) So with that said, I would encourage us all, be patient and trust and know it is in God's perfect timing.

Many times I have prayed and did not get the results that i thought I should have received.I have learned that my life has to be in line with the word of God in order for my prayer to be effective in the Kingdom. The effectual fervent prayer of the righteous availeth much. (John5:16),And we are made righteous through the blood of Jesus.(2Corithians5:21). Therefore, whatever I ask in the name of Jesus and believe and not doubt it shall come to pass.

Many times i have found myself doing to much talking to God and not enough listening and feeling his presence.

It is important for me to trust God, to know that his way is the best, prayer is a matter of life and death with me.Listening to God is life, knowing that he is the great provider, and will do what is best for me.

I was searching the web for a daily devotional. I am looking to grow in my prayer life and looking to seek him more in the coming year. When I read the passage on this website, I knew that God had led me here. Looking forward to seeking, finding and growing closer to Him with this group.

My dialogue with God over the past few years has been reasonably good. I have tried to embrace the 'pray without ceasing' approach. However, as I reflect on changes I need to make for the new year, I do need to improve my time in the closet, away from the noise of the day to spend more quality one-on-one time with God.
Reading the passage in Luke today, reminded me of just how personal our God is and that He really wants us to seek after Him and spend time talking with Him about whats going on in our lives at evey level.
