Proverbs 18:1-24
There are a lot of good words that tell us about being wise in Proverbs 18. But did you notice how much of this chapter touched on speech and our tongues? But what I liked was there was example after example of how foolish people use their speech. Now I like this reverse approach of looking at foolish behavior instead of always reading about what is right because it lets me see the full picture.
So what did you learn about being wise with your tongue? Was there a specific verse that was meaningful to you? (Mine was verse 21). Tami W.

Verse 14..."a crushed spirit who can bear?" I am a very sensitive person and this "crushed spirit" I often experience. I am unemployed and I must trust and rely on the Lord to help me not get so easily offended when I start a new job. I remember crying very often in the past at work-I am 49 and need to grow up. The underlying meaning of this verse to me is that I can bear a crushed spirit with God's help and guidance.
Pro 18:2 spoke mainly to me this morning only because I am often faced with this type of character by someone I befriended on Facebook. He always makes postings trying to come off as some enlightened christian rebel guy. Everyone else is wrong & he has this new perspective that everyone should embrace. His motive is transparent. His desire is to be heard & seen.
I liked 17, because oftentimes people, myself included, think we are right, until someone comes and questions us, and then we have to actually think about it in depth. It kind of goes along with "think before you speak" and "tis better to remain silent and have people think you're a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt".
Proverb 18 spoke truth into me just how powerful words can be. I to am sensitive to words and sometimes feel like a vacuum cleaner cleaning up words that others say. Like Anonymous above I believe our problem is not uncommon & that there are very few resources to help people with this. I let the presence of God in me cleanse and purify these words then rest in the Lord while He works in me
Verse 10: this scripture I quote daily in my prayers; always knowing I am safe in His arms everyday and all day.
Proverbs 18 really teaches me to be mindful of the words I say.At times I do not realise what I say until later.
My life is such a wreck--yet I accepted Jesus at age 11-- now I'm 65. By the way, diet pepsi is slow poison--use the regular, if at all.
