Proverbs 12:1-28
A picture of a wise person is what I found as I delved into Proverbs 12. Detail after detail to help me understand being wise--righteous, prudent, caring. Now there were two verses that spoke loudly to me--verse 18 that talked about the tongue of the wise being healing, and then verse 19 that said those who plan peace have joy. They communicated to me that what we say (or sometimes refrain from saying) and how we say it can be powerful. I see verse 18 and 19 really working together. Basically, a great help to getting a wise, healing tongue is for us to center our daily plan on peace.
So what does having a healing tongue look like for you? (I'd love to read some examples if you're up to sharing). And, any thoughts on planning peace? Tami W.

The following was from a devotional i recently read about the TONE of our voices not necessarily about the content of it. I believe this is very applicable to the healing tongue you referenced in proverbs 12
Read: Colossians 4:2-6
Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one. —Colossians 4:6
Paul saw the need for us as believers to check our speech—especially when talking to those who are not Christians. He said, “Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one” (Col. 4:6). His concern was that our speech be graceful, reflecting the beauty of our Savior. And it must be inviting to others. Talking with the right tone to unbelievers is vital to our ability to witness to them. Colossians 4:6 can be our tone check.
I am asking for prayer to say positive and wise things to my fifteen year old son., and not negative stuff to him.
A Healing Tongue, Would be, a soft answer. Toward someone pouring their heart out to you. And always keep in mind to do unto others as you have them do unto you... Soft healing words bring peace to ones heart. And so that is why we need the Word of God in us, so it can flow out of us and Heal as we speak,, not us so much but the Spirit of God. Brings Healing. Thank you. Amen
i picked up more on vs. 22 where the KJV says our lips are truly His delight. What I say and how I say it can cause me to be a blessing to others and my Lord recognizes it, therefore giving me another star in my crown some day to cast at His feet. In Psalm 94:19 I read that His comforts delight my soul. And my grateful, delighted soul should overflow so that thanksgiving leaves my lips and heart and becomes visible to others.
Hello… I’m a ‘people watcher.’ That is, I like to examine others and how they react (or, to be exact, overreact) in certain situations; the words they hurl at others, etc. and so-on. I’m guilty of this. I’m not going to lie. Over the years the Lord has taught me to ‘zip-my-lip’ and only say that which is edifying. So Tammy, that is how I understood Chapter 12: many bad memories rushing back and showing me once again my foolish, foolish past.
The bible tells us that there is power in our tongue. as in Life and Death! so a healing tongue is one which ALWAYS say whatsoever things are good, pure, holy and true!if we look also in (prov.10 v31- 32) we also sees the power of a healing tongue.as a christian my way of a healing tongue is to always say encouraging words to anyone i come in contact with.always been positive and not to do the opposite as it says in (v 22).
When I came to the vers 18-22, it really brought me back to PRAY Psalm 19:14 (NIV). May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.
The words we read in verse 18-19 help use when we forget words have power when they come from the bible
Healing of the tongue brings encouragement, love, understanding, a listening ear, kindness, mercy, speaking the truth in love, etc. We need to do this everyday and especially during this Yuletide season. Trying this myself, working at it daily, beings peace in my soul, as well as the person you may dealing with.
It is so true! you can choose to use words to "kick someone while they are down", or use them to uplift someones spirits. Truly, the Lord wants us to show love and compassion to each other, and speak as he would, not tear people down and speak evil.
Sharon got me reading chapter 10. Note verse 28, "The hope of the righteous brings joy". When we truly are happy in the Lord, It will spill over into others lives. This world needs to see joy filled followers of Christ. Our words then will be a great encouragement to others.
Reading the living, and amplified versions gives greater insight as to what the author is trying to convey. Our first reaction to mockers is correct , or "enlighten" them, which the scripture tells us is "not wise". Man! What a relief!
Thanks Susana for your Prayer of Psalm 19:14. I wrote it down and have memorized it because although I usually speak kind words, my heart is not always in snyc. I'm becoming more and more aware of the negative things I'm thinking even though I don't say them. I really needed this scripture today at work!! God is working on my heart!! Thanks!!
