John 8:25-30
Jesus' identity is the question of the day in John 8:12-30. As we start our passage, Jesus is talking to the Pharisees and they don't understand who Jesus is. Jesus point blank tells them he is the light of the world (vs. 12) and that he was sent by the Father (vs. 16). Still, the Pharisees are clueless and they finally just come out and ask Jesus "Who are you?" Jesus responds yet again letting them know he was sent by God the Father.
So what do Jesus' words show you about God the Father? What about God the Son? How does this passage give you confidence in God's Word? Tami W.

It shows me more about God's omnipotence. God is my Holy Father who takes care of me and the whole world. Jesus is God the Son, the only perfect person and God at the same time, our perfect example of how to live, how to love, the way of eternal life. I rest in that certainty, it is my security. When I pray to God, if I ask to grow closer to Him, the circumstances in my life change to give me the opportunity to rely soley on Him. I need to do that, to elevate Him in my life more than myself.
It shows that God was indeed with Jesus, and that he wanted his message to be received and understood. God indeed has much to say and judge to people, and that will come to pass, but for now, he wants us to believe that Jesus Christ is indeed our Lord and Saviour, God incarnate, and that we should and must place perfect trust in him. God is always with and of Jesus, and Jesus is the only perfection, as that is what pleases God. If we submit to the fact that Jesus is our Lord and Savior, the burdens of that perfection, which we may never attain, leave us, and the Lord Jesus Christ has already shouldered those burdens. This gives me the confidence to walk through life knowing that Jesus is with me, and is my propitiation for all my sins. Therefore, through Jesus, I am assured a place in Heaven.
This encourages me in that just as Jesus carried out the work of the Father, so we
too should live in obedience to God's will for our lives. Through the
Holy Spirit we must live 'the Word'. Imperfect though we are, we
should always seek to be more like Christ everyday.

I like the verses that tell about His lifting up and then they will know. It's shows that the Father and the Son already knew about the crucifixion.
As I read this, I can understand the confusion of the people of that day. I just heard a story of a man that said God told him to run for president, but now he is being charged with sexual crimes. The same thing occured with the man who called himself a prophet but ran a polygamist colony. How many people in Jesus' time were doing the same thing?
I like the fact that Jesus referenced the cross, but that comment would only be understandable after the fact.
The people who believed without seeing miracles must have had a tremendous relationship with God the father to know and really believe.
I guess that is what it boils down to. The deeper the relationship with our God, the more we can know that Jesus was sent for us and the more deeply we can believe and grow our faith.
