Psalm 129:1-8
Prolonged and severe hardship seems to be the backdrop and setting of Psalm 129. Having grown up in farm country, I actually cringed when I read "The plowers plowed upon my back; they made long their furrows" (vs. 3). What a vivid description of suffering. It's pretty clear that life is not at all rosy for the psalmist, yet his next words declare the Lord's righteousness (vs. 4). All I can say is--wow.
So how can/will you draw on Psalm 129 for encouragement this week? What do the psalmist's situation and his words show us about dealing with difficulty, suffering and hardship? Tami W.

The psalmist knew the Lord was in control and that those who were against him would not prevail.
I really like this cause I can so relate. Our Christian walk is not going to be a bed of roses. In fact sometime we will endure lots of trial and tribulations. Sometimes I feel like I am going through so much and wonder where God is through this. Than I read God's word and come across scripture like this and know God is there no matter what I might be going through.
The suffering was long and hard but God saw/sees the mistreatment,
and in His time He will distory those who appose His people. God
has not forgotten His people the Jews nor His people who are Gentiles but children by adoption. He will not leave us to suffer for ever, He is our God. With fearful, sorrowing hearts we look
for final deliverance perhaps this week, if not then in the weeks that follow. They may kill the body but God shall raise us up yet, and we shall be victors and live again, those whose trust is in or Our savior and God. God shall win finally and forever, PRAISE HIS NAME YOU HIS PEOPLE!
Bless in the name of the Lord those who opress us
That there is Hope and they increases our faith. Our Pastor preached/taught about being an Encourager to someone else like Barnabus.
Psalm 129 hints at reparative justice. This is not NewAge positive thinking. Behind the words it suggests a new type of plan. Regardless, mankind is tried by affliction to bring up consciousness that says, "I have looked and feel sorry"
I hold on to the second half of verse 2 "yet they have not prevailed against me" and remember that God is always in control. This is not an easy thing to do but it is a great exercise in strengthening our faith and relinquishing control to the Almighty.
Hi Tammi,
When I read the Psalm 129 shows what we will have to endure for our faith to be tested. Jesus said in the world you will face tribulations but do not be dismayed that He has defeated the world. This will test our character, our faith and obedience to God's word.
Have a blessed day
