Psalm 123:1-4
Generally when I talk or write about God I refer to Him as Father, God or Lord. But I don't typically refer to Him as master even though I fully believe and know that God is my master. So I was glad that Psalm 123 made the analogy of servants (us) looking to their master (God) because it got me thinking in a more focused way today about God being my master and what that truly means for me.
So what does God being master mean to you? How are you "looking to the hand" of God, your master, today? Tami W.

It i easy to remember that my heavenly father is Master of all that I am, have ever been, or can ever be. That is usually contained in my prayers. Thanking Him and blessing His name is easy when things are going well and I am receiving blessings. However, it is not as easy to give Him praise when suffering and hardships come. Then I must remind myself that as master of all that I am, all that comes to me must also come through His hand. This includes things that are hard to accept. Like Job, I know that nothing can touch me unless He wills it so. Then, and then only, can hurt, sorrow, disappointments, or grief touch me.
Did not make it to Church today. Very bad snow storm. Trees came down all over the property. I cannot get out the driveway till I cut off some tree limbs. I trust in the Lord and wait for His guidance. I ask for His mercy and help to clean up this mess outside. But I praise Him for protecting my house. Yes, have mercy upon us, your servant.
Master, Savior, yet the ONE who calls me friend! What a concept; my Creator, the same ONE who created the universe, is also my Master and loves me enough to call me friend. Sometimes it's just too much for my finite mind to comprehend yet I believe!
God my father as master. Yes. He is the master of all creation. I cannot look at the beauty of a green field, trees or the animals of the air and earth without knowing that they are all possible because of my master. Surely, if he takes care of and provides for them, he does the same for me.
Abram addressed God as Adonai or Master - the Master has the right of possession and the one possessed is charged with submission to his Master, GOD! I found 161 references to master in the Bible (KJV), and 57 that specifically addresswd Jesus with an upper case M. I love to call my LORD MASTER! It keeps me focused on how significant HE is and how insignificant I am. HE must increase, but I must decrease -John 3:30. HE is my everything and I hope HE is your everything too.
PS I went to Church yesterday after doing Saturday's P4 and something-nothing short of miraculous-happened. Sorry I can not explain it, but it was wonderful!!! I been going to this Church for about 10 years and I "never" felt the way I felt last night before! Whether it was a change in perspective or enthusiasm or both, or something else I do not know. What I do know is that it was a beautiful experience. Thank you for helping me with that one P4! May GOD bless all. I love you!
I forgot to give thanks where it is really due: to you LORD Jesus! My MASTER and my love!
God has blessed me. That doesn't mean that my life has been a cake walk.
Master? Maybe... When I think of the term master, I think of servants in waiting; service with unquestioning devotion. What does it mean for me to look to God's hand as a servant does to the hand of his master, "until He takes mercy on us?"
Perhaps during old testament times, it might have been considered fortunate to find one's self in the service of a Master? The master has accepted a man or woman into his service and there is a covenant that is formed in that relationship? The Master is benign and has accepted my service and in the discipline of service I await the giving forth of the master's hand that leads me to a greater understanding of how to live?
I guess that I look at Joseph being sold into slavery by his brothers. He must have had the the understanding of the relationship of servant and master that this Psalm alludes to?
Anyway, the idea of master is hard to swallow. I think that maybe I'm one of those people at "ease" or "proud" that might show contempt for the class of people that are servants. So there's an admonition to me to understand the what and the why of being a servant.
Thank you for the grist for the mill
Thinking of my beloved Master...especially from Kenny U's point of view...yes, He is master of all creation, but deeper than that, He's Master of us all on a personal level. It's the proper perspective for us to view our relationship with God, and Kenny reminds us that our part is that of submission. Starting each day with this attitude is more liberating than we could ever imagine. We need to do this to remain humble (reminds me of another of Kenny's comments a couple of days ago), lest the old sin nature creep back into our way of thinking. Got to progress forward with the "renewing of our minds" (Romans 12:2). This is one of those things that has lost a little of it's meaning to our culture over time. This analogy painted a much clearer picture to readers of centuries past. But it's not out of reach. A good master cares and provides for all of his subjects basic needs, and relies on his subjects to take care of all of the "manual labor" so to speak. He demands and deserves utter respect and total obedience at all times (that's the "right of possession" part). It's in his best interest to provide well for his subjects, for then his workforce will have maximum efficiency. This is the perfect portrait of our Heavenly Father, and also of our role in the relationship as followers of Christ. This is no free ride. We are expected to work (John 15 comes to mind here). Our Master provides all that is necessary for us to accomplish whatever "manual labor" that He requires of us, and it really is a privilege to be allowed to participate this way in the first place. I could go on and on contrasting a good and wise master with a greedy and foolish one, but I've already rambled a bit, so I'll just get to the point. Do not be fooled by your life of luxury and relative ease...we are all slaves. We, unknowingly and unwittingly, are born into slavery to the ruler of this world (John 14:30-31), and he does have a claim on us. But, because of Jesus and what he did, we have a choice...which master will you serve? A greedy and foolish one or a good and wise one?
P.S. Let's not forget that God is also master of "the ruler of this world"...Lucifer was cast out of heaven and given dominion over the earth, but, like Doris's reference to the story of Job, he's on a short leash...nothing can touch me unless He wills it so.
Mannnnnnnnnnnnnnn! You guys with all your words and world ... thoughts, make it hard for anyone to come to Christ. Let me make this crystal clear and "hopefully" simple 4 U gentlemen. I know that HE lives; 'cause HE lives inside of me! Amen?! Cheers.
Today upon a bus I saw a girl with golden hair
I envied her her loveliness and wished I were as fair.
And then I saw her struggle up and hobble down the aisle -
She had one leg and a metal crutch
and a dazzling, friendly smile.
Oh God, forgive me when I whine
I have two legs - THE WORLD IS MINE!
And then I stopped to buy some sweets from
a lad who had such charm,
I stayed to chat a while - If I were late, what harm?
And when I turned to leave, he said,
"Thank you; you've been so kind.
It's nice to talk with folks like you.
You see," he said, "I'm blind."
Oh God, forgive me when I whine
I have two eyes - THE WORLD IS MINE!
I'm sorry I went off! You do not have to post these you know? I fear it would only stir up trouble; of which I don't want any.
Thank you!
Farther on down the street,
I saw a child with eyes so blue -
He stood and watched the others play,
as though puzzled what to do.
I stopped a moment, said,
"Why don't you join the others, dear?"
He looked ahead without a word,
and then I knew he could not hear.
Oh God, forgive my words of woe -
I've eyes to see the sunset glow
And ears to hear what others say
And legs to take me on my way.
Oh God, forgive me when I whine -
How blessed I am - THE WORLD IS MINE!
