Fruitful Branch

Genesis 49:16-28

As we finish reading Genesis 49:16-28, Jacob continues to address his sons. He eventually gets to Joseph in verses 22-26, and what Jacob has to say is quite descriptive and really reinforces all that we've seen of Joseph so far. Plus, the wording Jacob uses gives us another way to look at and consider Joseph. "'Joseph is a fruitful bough, a fruitful bough by a spring; his branches run over the wall'" (Gen. 49:22).

So what did Genesis 49:22-26 show you about Joseph? How can we be more like Joseph, a fruitful bough (branch), when it comes to living for the Lord? Tami W.

...a fruitful bough by a spring;...fruitful because he lives close to the Living Waters...so fruitful, it cannot be contained...when we draw close to Jesus and make our home there, the same will be said about us...

Though shoot at and wounded by those who hate you, even your own family, you are blessed by the all powerful God. He will bless you with blessings from heaven and blessing here on earth. Your divine purpose shall not be stopped by those who hate you, but God Himself has separtated you to accomplish all He has planned for you.

The blessing of Jacob on Joseph previews Psalm 1 of King David where he writes of the blessings on the righteous : "He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers." So, to be more like Joseph in his righteousness, we should follow King Davids admonition in Psalm 1 : "Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers;but his delight is in the law of the LORD,and on his law he meditates day and night."

Thank-you Tami and all those who leave comments. I loved what Tom, LeRoy and Will wrote today. Their thoughts will be on my mind all day.

I agree with you Trisha, these comments are great. It is also exciting to me that the blessing are of heaven and earth, both spiritual and temporal. What a great God we serve and love. I think I am going to pray this blessing for my grandchildren.
