Genesis 38:1-30
We've all heard it, maybe we've even thought it or said it. My business is just that--mine. And what I choose to do isn't anyone else's concern. So many times we don't give much, if any, thought to how our actions might impact others. So we do what seems right for us at the moment. But that can be problematic, especially when sinful behavior is part of the mix. The account of Judah and Tamar demonstrates that pretty clearly. Judah didn't keep his promise to Tamar because it suited him. But as we see, his broken promise snowballed into more and more sin.
So what did this passage show you about the devastating effect of sin? Tami W.

You know, we tend to think about sin in scales, categories and levels. Big vs little sins. I think this story is sobering. One little indiscretion. Breaking a promise! I’m almost sure Judah was saying to himself, if I delayed enough she probably will forget the whole thing. But look where it led them all!
This passage has got me looking back at my own attitude to things like procrastination, or even the whole issue of how I make commitments. In my country we have a saying:
What is joke to you is death to me.
It simply means the things we take lightly or for granted can have devastating effects on others. We need to be more mindful of this.
I was reminded of Numbers 32:23 how your sin will find you out.
as in the garden of eden when the serpent confuses eve an let her eat of the forbidden fruit ,he ends up payin the cost of sin.so in the scripture as sin shows its face, what we as christians have to do is to just turn to god our father in prayer an fasten.
In this story there are so many selfish people, we can always find selfishness in ourselves. In little and big things. It is good to take these stories in and find ourselves there. and pray, confess, repent, and recieve forgiveness and grow in rightousness.Consider others above ourselves, amd make good choices that we not be ashamed later
We (I) tend to forget how my seemingly "little" sins affect others. I think somehow that what others don't don't know won't affect me or others. This passage clearly teaches it can have devastating results. Judah was not responsible for Tamar's sin of prostitution and yet he did enocourage it by his own sin of irresponsibility. Wow, I do need to be careful as I go about my day. My business is Not my business, but GOD'S.
