Psalm 119:161-176

I thought it was fitting that as we wind up Psalm 119 the Psalmist talked about rejoicing and praising the Lord (vs. 162, 164, 171, 175). And when you think about it, that's definitely an appropriate response after all the wonderful things we learned from Psalm 119 about God and His Word. So praise away!

So how did you enjoy your time in Psalm 119? What did you learn? Did God impress anything in particular on your heart? (The highlight for me was all the verses about delighting in God's Word. That will definitely be my focus this coming week as I read my Bible.) Tami W.

I love Psalm 119. It's so long and so dense, and impossible to read and fully appreciate in one sitting. Need to ponder this one slowly.

This really hit me this morn....David was committed to following the LORD so early in the morning he was up calling for help as he knew his adversay was after him. He asked for help at the beginning of the day.
After all these years I wait until I am deep in the battle with no where else to go then I am reminded to pray and ask for help....save me.
I am slow of mind,I guess. slow to learn. Ipray for others during the night and early in the morning,,,when I get up. not often.but I don't plead for help for myself unless I have been in the battle all night.
Am goimg to try to start my day different from now on. Thank you for the new insight.God Bless you.

119:165- Great peace have those who love your law.
and nothing causes them to stumble. there is abundant safety in the Scriptures to keep us from stumbling or falling. Take heed folks. That Scripture really ministered to me.

I love the desperation of the Psalmist for God. He is totally convinced of his need for God continually. So often I don't like that feeling of inadequacy and helplessness and I fight against it but it is a wonderful gift to know how weak you are so you will draw near to God continually. It is like it says in Psalm 119:67 "Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I keep Thy word." I went through a depression which was very difficult but it taught me how to depend on the Lord and draw strength from His word and His presence in me through the Holy Spirit. Psalm 119 is one of my favorite scripture passages.

I just started this study but I have read Psalm 119 many times and I absolutely love it!! I resonate so with the Psalmists heart, feeling his utter sinfulness but trusting totally in the Lord through His word. He is comforted from the Word, convicted of his sin and waywardness and taught truth through the word of God, and the Holy Spirit illuminating the word. The word of God is more precious to the Psalmist than thousands of gold and silver pieces (vs. 72) (127). I guess that is why Jesus taught that you can't serve God and mammon. If you are so busy making money and neglecting God's word, you miss life abundantly in Christ. Oh that we would desire God's word like we hunger physically after food (131)! That may be why fasting is effective because you seek God in His word and when you feel hungry you cry out to God on behalf of the ones you pray for or for your own soul to be revived. I also love the way God leads us in His word because He knows exactly what we need. (133) No wonder the schools that have taken God's word out of it are not providing students with the education they need. Wisdom comes from God through His word. We have a whole generation who does not believe in absolute truth as a result of satan's lies coming through educational system. God have mercy on us, especially the church who have desperately failed you. Revive us Lord!

i just wanted to share with you this story wc i came across This is one of the best explanations of why God allows pain and suffering that I have seen. It's an explanation other people will understand.

A man went to a barbershop to have his hair cut and his beard trimmed. As the barber began to work, they began to have a good conversation. They talked about so many things and various subjects.

When they eventually touched on the subject of God, the barber said: "I don't believe that God exists."

"Why do you say that?" asked the customer.

"Well, you just have to go out in the street to realize that God doesn't exist. Tell me, if God exists, would there be so many sick people? Would there be abandoned children? If God existed, there would be neither suffering nor pain. I can't imagine a loving God who would allow all of these things."

The customer thought for a moment, but didn't respond because he didn't want to start an argument. The barber finished his job and the customer left the shop. Just after he left the barbershop, he saw a man in the street with long, stringy, dirty hair and an untrimmed beard. He looked dirty and un-kept.

The customer turned back and entered the barber shop again and he said to the barber: "You know what? Barbers do not exist."

"How can you say that?" asked the surprised barber. "I am here, and I am a barber. And I just worked on you!"

"No!" the customer exclaimed. "Barbers don't exist because if they did, there would be no people with dirty long hair and untrimmed beards, like that man outside."

"Ah, but barbers DO exist! What happens is, people do not come to me."
"Exactly!"- affirmed the customer. "That's the point! God, too, DOES exist! What happens, is, people don't go to Him and do not look for Him. That's why there's so much pain and suffering in the world."

How comforting yet challenging Psalm 119 is. Walking with God minute by minute, second by second is something I am trying to do - with God's help and the Spirit's prompting. My husband often thanks God for each breath we take and to me that is how to keep God front and foremost; each inspiration is a thank you to God. You start to realize without Him you are nothing.
