Intimate and Near

Psalm 139:1-24

David sure has a way with words. His writing is eloquent and delivers a clear message. And speaking of message, the BIG message I got from Psalm 139 was that God KNOWS me inside and out. He knows every detail about me--physically, emotionally, spiritually. Nothing is hidden from God and I cannot escape from Him. Those are all wonderful things but a little tough to fully comprehend.

Think about the person who knows you best. Maybe that's a parent, a spouse, a sibling or your best friend. Now consider what they know about you and then multiply that by...oh, let's say 10. That's how intimately God knows us. He knows us better than we know ourselves.

So how did reading that God has total and intimate knowledge of and about you impact you today? What did Psalm 139 show you about God, his love for you and your relationship with Him? Tami W.

I wonder what others think of the statements that say that God hates certain people.

It is so comforting to me knowing that God knows me through and through, better than I know mysels. I know I can come before him without having to perform or make excuses, because He already knows all. It encourages me in my prayer life knowing this.

This reading today fit in with the other Psalms I read today (Psalm's 32 and 51). It gives me strength. I finnaly confessed a sin to God and others that I have held onto for so long. I am doing what God has told me to do finnaly and this was just a way of him saying I know everything about you and I still love you.

Comlpetely. That is the word that I would use to describe what God knows about me and how He takes care of me. This is one of my favourite passages. I claim it almost everyday on my way to work. If God already knows everything about me and my circumstances, and He has my back - so to speak, then why do I need to be bothered with worry?! Like Linda said - He still loves me even knowing all about me. WOW!

I, too, was wondering about the hatred mentioned in this psalm. The comments in my study Bible suggest that those hated by David are those who ACTIVELY campaign against the Lord. I don't know if it has anything to do with it but, in the Old Testament, it was an eye for an eye and the New Testament teaches us to love our enemies and do good to those who hate us. We also see things from our perspective and we are not living with war around us constantly as David was. It also seems that now we discern the difference between the sinner and the sin. It appears that the Old Testament was more black and white. We, in North America, have become far too complacent and do not stand firmly when we should and the whole continent is getting further from our Lord. I pray for a great revival and a returning to Our Lord - then we and our nations will be truly blessed. May God be with you all and bless and lead you in all things.

In regards to purity, I believe that not only includes sex, but motives as well. We as Christians have a high standard to live up to, and I have to admit that I, personally, am extremely challenged by this. Judgmentalism towards others, coworkers, neighbors, complete strangers. I hate it when I think that way, because I know that God loves these people just as much as He loves me.

I find it so interesting that David ends the psalm asking God to search his heart after he describes how mad he is at people who hate God. I love how honest the psalms are. I think we can look at it and learn, when something or someone is bothering us to ask God to search our heart and see if there is anything we need to look at and ask forgiveness for, and for God to lead us on the everlasting path. God is so good to answer that prayer, He WANTS us to have purity in our livs, and LOVES when we pray for things in His Will.

this psalm is very reassuring to the believer it helps him understand i think the most important thing which we fail to recognise that we are just clay in the potters hand it also shows that nothing is hidden from God the most we can do is rejoice and be glad with who we are and what God has given us
