Living Stones

1 Peter 2:4-10

Today we get a little mini sermon of sorts on being God's people. Peter starts with the foundation--Christ--who is the living cornerstone, and then tells us that those who follow and believe in Christ "like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house."

So what does 1 Peter 2:1-10 show us about our relationship with Christ? How do you see yourself as being like a "living stone"? Tami W.

It is such a blessing to be compared to the chief cornerstone. As a "stone" ourselves, we can be used in God's work. For me this passage reminds me that I need to be close to and connected with other believers in order to be effective. A stone by itself isn't very helpful but when a bunch of them are fitted together you have a wall or a house; a structure that can be useful. And as I am fitted together with the rest of the stones, I have edges and corners which need to be worked on. Praise God for the chief cornerstone and all the other stones that God uses in my life.

Connected to the stone of greatest importance, means that I am also of use. I am not alone, being connected to other believers. Together we build what God wants us to be. It is so important that we fellowship with other believers. I am thankful that God takes off the rough edges so that we fit together!

It is necessary that we follow and do God's will as a stone of the foundation if we don't the house would fall. As Eric said we need to have fellowship with one and other, to stick together as Christ's followers.

God is building a temple of living stones. In Jesus God is building a temple of living stones and we are privileged to part of it. In Jesus Christ, believing Jews and gentles are one, barriers are removed. Believers are one body, citizens one nation and living stones in one temple.Hence no way the temple can be destroyed.
