Genesis 46:1-7
Jacob is our key person for the day. As we start Genesis 46 God is speaking to Jacob (Israel) through dreams to let him know that he is to take his family and possessions and move them to Egypt. Now I love the interaction between God and Jacob here. God calls "'Jacob, Jacob.'" And Jacob answers "'Here am I'" (vs. 2).
Now how Jacob responds here is what I love about this exchange. It's such an example for us. Here's what I noticed--first of all, that Jacob responded immediately. There was no hesitation, no reservation, no fear. Instead there is a sense of eager anticipation to hear from and converse with the Lord.
So what can we do to be more like Jacob? How do we get to the place where when God calls our immediate response is, "Here am I....Right here...Yes, Lord"? Tami W.

I think the key is remaining in the presence of the Lord. Jacob was worshipping God and had been offering sacrifices to the Lord before he heard God's voice. When we remain in the presence of the Lord, the Holy Spirit who lives within us will quickly answer for us, "Here am I".
The response of Jacob reminds me of the praise song with the words 'I give myself away, so you can use me'. Clearly Jacob and so many of the other Patriarchs, Prophets, Priests and noble Kings lived their lives with those words as their motto. As a result, they were always ready for the call from the Lord. We therefore have a huge responsibilty with these lives that the Lord has granted to us. The fact is we are here to serve his purpose so it is critical for us to ensure that we do not allow ourselves to get distracted by anything even the things that he has blessed us with whether a good job, a nice house or car or even wonderful families. As far as the Lord and his bidding is concerned our agendas must always be clear so that the response he gets from us everytime should be "Here am I".
I see here that Jacob was in search of Gods instructions on what to do about his situation.I see that he gave sacrifices and probably prayed about the situation then waited for the response eagerly. We can get to that place when times of uncertainty arise when we give it wholeheartedly to God and wait for Him to direct us.I know at times in my own live I fear Gods answer so I do ignore it.But Jacob was not like that ,he trusted his God with whatever situation and we should too.
