1 Samuel 31:1-13; 2 Samuel 1:17-27
Saul and his sons are killed in battle in 1 Samuel 31. When David receives the news, he tears his clothes, and then he and his men mourn, weep and fast. Not the response most people would expect after the awful way Saul treated David. David acts with honor, once again recognizing Saul as God's anointed at this time.
I found these passages heavy emotionally, yet good because they got me thinking about: dealing with and respecting others both before and after death; accepting and working through transitions; and the need to be in tune with God's plan and timing. So any thoughts on those? Or maybe you got something different from these passages? Tami W.

This was certainly a sad passage. Saul and Jonathan were treated with great dignity even though Saul basically committed suicide. I found it odd his arms bearer did the same. How much love did he have for Saul as well. I seemed though these passages that God had lifted His protection of the Isrealites. They fled and the Philistines took over their land. I wonder why this transpired.
Saul, was wounded, and unable to flee, expressed no concern about his never-dying soul; but only desired that the Philistines might not insult him, or put him to pain, and he killed himself. As it is the work of the devil, to persuade us sinners, under great difficulties, to fly to this last act of desperation. It is a serious consideration of its sinfulness before God. But our security is not in ourselves. Let us seek protection from Him. Let us watch and pray; and take unto us the whole armour of God, that we may be able to withstand in the evil day.
Thanks Dora, that's exactly what I need to hear today.
