1 Samuel 16:1-13
Today we start a two week trek of reading and learning about the life of David. We're looking at 1 Samuel 16:1-13 where God has directed Samuel to the family of Jesse, David's father, to anoint one of his sons the next king. Samuel doesn't know that David is the one God has chosen; he only knows it's one of Jesse's sons. So when the first son, who apparently had "the look" of a king in Samuel's opinion, came out, Samuel was ready to act. But God stopped him saying, "Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart" (vs. 6-7). As things end up, the most unlikely candidate, David, is who God had chosen to be the next king.
So how do we develop discerning eyes like the Lord so that we can see people like God does? Tami W.
P.S. Today on Back to the Bible we're starting a two weeks series, David: Pleasing the Heart of God. I invite you to join Dr. Kroll and me for the daily studies.

I think best to ask for the eyes so discerning. do you really want the responsibility. If you ask alone the Lord may say no. If your brethren lay hands on you , then you best be prepared and not abusing. Know what you ask for . I just dont know if you can develope on your own this gift . I dont think its a practice makes perfect type of thing. At the heart of the question though, It is daily word study and prayer . Truely it brings us closer to understanding. To see people as God does?? I suppose thats what God wants. See those who love Him and what about the blasphemers are there millions and millions of them that are trying to destroy your work, even infiltrate every aspect of church life. The enemy has a great unhidden revival started so this discernment is needed.. Dont be teachers of the word and not do as Jesus commanded; "do good" and "expose the devil".
I too do not believe that we can develop this gift on our own. All good gifts come from God and as verse 13 says, "Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the Lord came upon on David from that day forward". (KJV) We have to pray and if it is God's will He will grant it.
A Question . . . Are the daily radio programs available on transcript? I recall they were available on transcript before.
About the radio program transcripts...
Great question! And maybe others are wondering the same thing.
We apologize they have not been available for several weeks. The reason is because we've been evaluating which resources offered on the Back to the Bible website (including transcripts) are being most utilized.
And we're definitely taking into consideration the comments received from people like yourself, so thanks for letting us know of your interest. We appreciate your patience and hope to be able to offer them again soon.

I think too as I have been reading over others comments that to have that discernment you would have a lot of responsiblity. Samuel had a big responsibility in going and he was fearful too. Christ made it easy for him letting him say he was going to sacrifice. What a good God we serve. Interesting comments!
I liked the transcripts because they enable a person to review what was said during a program. I hope you know what I mean . . . For me, transcripts made things easier to find.
I hope you can continue using the transcripts.
Discerning comes with maturity in the Lord, which we all strive for more each day, with maturity also come responsibility. The Lord guides us in this area if we allow Him, too. Striving to be Spirit lead daily is my goal.
I too miss the trancripts and do hope they will return. Thanks to BTTB for helping me to mature in God's Word. Dr. Kroll's teachings are very inspiring and leaves me to ponder on a lot of things. Thanks also for the devotionals.
Back to the Bible has been an inspiration in my life for many years.
I grew up with listening to BTTB in our home and appreciate the programs very much.
God bless you for sharing the Word of God which He lays on your heart.
I also miss the transcripts and hope they will become available again. I am the type of person that needs to re-read for a better understanding for my own sake.
Thank-you so very much!!!
