Genesis 17:1-27

Genesis 17 gives us the privilege of seeing a wonderful conversation between God and Abram (soon to be Abraham). The entire passage showed me a lot about Abraham (as well as God), and it really highlighted for me a depth of relationship. Abraham was reverent and respectful and most certainly recognized God as God. Yet at the same time, he was comfortable with God and open and genuine in his responses. Abraham also acted immediately once God told him what He wanted him to do. As I looked back over this chapter and considered what I had read and saw, my main thought was I want to make sure I'm like Abraham when it comes to my relationship with God.

So what did you learn from Abraham that you could start practicing today? Did Genesis 17 reveal anything to you about your relationship with God? Tami W.

Verses 1-7 makes me think of my own life. Am I going to obey God and do the things that please Him, or am I going to do what pleases others. What I mean by others is, people who are pulling you the opposite way of God's ways. I have a very hard time with that. I get pulled between the two. We need to remember God is the one we can trust, and His ways are the right way to go EVERY time.

I definitely need to work on being as obedient as Abraham.

I learned from Abraham that there is securit in the promises of God, and that nothing is too impossible for our Almighty and Holy God. I am learning and building my trust day by day in the promises of God and that even a great hall of famer of faith laughed initially but it did not thwart the promise and convenant that the Lord made with him and his wife. God is Good and only what he does last generations to come and that is the legacy I want to be apart of Be blessed today everyone.

Sometimes I forget that God knows my unspoken thoughts - He knows me inside and out. Abraham was open and honest with God. He laughed at God's news at first. I need to not fear asking God questions, expect answers, and have honest reactions.

Abram and God were really close... It's like they were having their regular evening chat...
I need to get to that place where prayer and Bible reading becomes more like my time of interaction with God, just as I would have with my wife or daughter... completely natural and unhurried. But also to be in touch with Him during the day just as I would call my wife... intimate and refreshing to carry me through the day and looking forward to being back together after work.
Praise God... He's still working on me....

One thing I noticed is that God continues His order in the marriage. Although Adam failed in his responsibilities, God still had Abraham as head of his household. Abraham is still responsible. No matter how much society tries to turn this around with proposition 8 and all, God's law is still the same and will never change. And when you continue to be obedient in your roles of marriage, God seems to bless your obedience. Case in point, Ishmael and his history as opposed to Isaac and his history. Thanks you all for your encouraging input.

I too, am learning (slowly) how to trust God and be open with him.I need to build my relationship with him. I pray that one day I can be as open with god as Abraham was.I thank God that he will never give up on me.

Things had to be completly clear to Abraham. I cant understand getting that job done without hearing directly from the Voice of God. I couldnt do that job from concience or hart felt knowledge it would have to be direct vocal awareness. Its so easy for God to deal with all mankind I am just glad Jesus said "I understand man".

What i get the most from all this was that 1. GOD changed abram's name to Abraham , just like how he changed Jacob's name to Isreal. When God calls you for a purpose even ur name changes . God transforms you, the name you now have has a special meaning , it too acts as a sign of the covenant GOD made with abraham.2. While the descendants of Abraham were marked by circumcision our mark that GOD has ownership of us is the blood of jesus the new covenant, jesus says he will never leave us nor forsake us and even left with us another sign of this covenent the Holy Spirirt . It makes me happy to know that i am apart of this inheritance, in the family of GOD.
