Proverbs 13:18; 15:12; 19:18
More on discipline today from three short verses in Proverbs. Even so, they give us plenty to consider.
So what did these verses show you about needing discipline? Receiving discipline? What about the benefits of discipline? Tami W

"Poverty and disgrace come to him who ignores instruction,
but whoever heeds reproof is honored". Good parents need to teach children and learn themselves, God's Righteous living + truths so they are aware of the "But If’s". We need to pray for our families to be willing to hear the truth and accept it because of love. Then we can be proud of our children and ourselves.
"A scoffer does not like to be reproved; he will not go to the wise." Children must have a trustworthy person to go to. We all need someone to talk to about life issues and have an example to follow. "Discipline your son, for there is hope; do not set your heart on putting him to death."
Most people who receive HARSH treatment and rebukes don't responded very well. Discipline given in haste is usually done with anger. Only God rebukes, chastens and disciplines with the purpose of CHANGING MY HEART and mind to good. In that there is HOPE. We all need to be more like Jesus.
As much as we hate it, discipline is critical in our development as wholesome individuals. Prov 13:18 reminds me of an old Jamaican saying 'who don't hear, goin' feel'... there is a high price to pay for not taking heed to Godly instruction and discipline.
As a mentor of young men in my Church, yes, sometimes I feel 'like putting them to death' as a result of the stress they cause BUT over the past twenty years, I have seen the fruit of disciplining my 'sons' as many are now in places of honor.
Of course in the midst of this, I too struggle with being disciplined by the Lord and by those He has put over me... However with time, I have learnt that "to obey is better than sacrifice" 1 Sam 15:22. Nigel W
It sounds like getting loving discipline from wise people is the best we can do for ourselves. Passing that on is very important.
Proverbs 19:18..That's an encouragement to me, I have a 6 years old boy with ADHD traits, there is hope and encouragement from the scripture, the journey of parenting and discipline goes together, that our children will grow up God-fearingly, and prepared in their ways before the Lord, 2 Chronicles 27:6
When I accept discipline and learn from my mistakes, I will bring honor to God. Others know I am not perfect, and apologizing when needed is humbling. Others see Jesus in me when I do not make the same mistakes over and over. Sometimes learning is not as quick as it should be, but God is so patient!!
