Fix Those Eyes

Genesis 49:1-50:26

The last two chapters of Genesis wrap up Joseph's story. At this point, Joseph's family is together in Egypt. Jacob dies and then eventually Joseph does as well.

Joseph is pretty amazing, don't you think? He certainly had less than smooth sailing for a good portion of his life, yet he never waived in his faith. His attitude, his words, his actions, were stellar. Why? Because Joseph kept his eyes fixed on God.

So how can we be more like Joseph--keeping our eyes fixed on the Lord at all times? What do you do now to help in this area? What other things might be helpful? Tami W.

To be like Jesus really takes sacrifice and humility. I need to practice and keep surrendering it at the foot of the cross. Only He can accomplish anything in me. If I continue to do things my way I am doing it in vain. I must keep my eyes on HIS WORD and run from temptation. Serving others and praying for those worse off than you is the biggest stopper of self pity and pride(I struggle with)I can think of. Trust and obey for there's no other way to be happy in Jesus but to trust and obey!

Discipline ourselves to get into God's Word more
and to pray more
Going to church and Bible study 'small group'..being involved in each
Have 'get togethers'
One thing my wife and I have done recently is to have these 'get-to-know-you, 'get togethers' with new couples just joining the church and couples that we know already. It has proved to be a great mix, esp since they are all not far apart in age.

Joseph is such an amazing example of total trust in God. Since we don't have any writings from Joseph to let us "see" what was going on in his head, I'm guessing that Joseph believed that God was who He claimed to be and Joseph was not willing to let his present circumstances change that view. God had given Joseph the dreams which indicated that Joseph would one day have great power and influence. Joseph held onto that revelation from God, even though everything that was happening around him seemed to indicate something quite different. We too have amazing revelation and promises from God in His word. If we hang onto that, we will not lose.
