Nehemiah 13:15-31
Well, it's our final day in Nehemiah and, not surprisingly, Nehemiah's leadership skills continue to shine. Today we see Nehemiah acting to restore proper practices in a number of areas and he went about doing this, we see Nehemiah being bold both with his words and his actions. That's not easy to do, but there are times when it's necessary.
We've spent two weeks reading in Nehemiah here on P4 and we've also been learning about "Effective Leadership" on Back to the Bible. So what did you learn from Nehemiah about leadership? Was there a particular principle (or maybe several) that you found helpful and are putting into action? Tami W.

Nehemiah was a strong, decisive and firm leader, but what to me was most impressive is that his decisions were based on the teachings of the scriptures and he refused to vary them in any way. So many good leaders abound today but many of them are in crime or other distasteful activities. We need to be leaders of good leaders whose thoughts and actions are directed by the word of God. So in all we do in our every day life we should be directed in all things by the word of God.
Tami, I learned many things. As a matter of fact I recorded all 30 because they are very usual observations that we can use in our church in our personal lives and in our jobs.
Having clean hands and a pure heart is definitely No 1. This is true because we cannot be good leaders if we ourselves are not upright. I think integrity plays an important role here also.
When we are given a leadership role we must give our Creator thanks because He has provided the opening for us so we must pray and ask Him for guidance, Some leaders want to impress employers by setting unachievable goals which we know from the outset will not work. So setting reasonable and attainable goals are a priority.
Selecting your team or if given a team, we must make sure everybody is on the same page. Train and communicate with each team player that everybody understands the tasks and always keep in touch with the team to see how we are progressing. Motivate our team and lead by example.
The point about opposition is very relevant. Opposition will come but as a leader we have to hold our own and keep on the right path and not allow anything to distract us from the assignment.
Always have a contingency plan so that when emergency actions are necessary we are ready. We must manage the resources we have, human and other resources such as financial because we do not want the assignment to fail. place persons in the right areas.
All along the way, we must give God thanks and seek His imput. When God opens doors for us He always provides so we must be confident and trust Him.
The two weeks spent in the Book of Nehemiah was such and inspiration and a great learning tool on leadership skills. Thanks to Dr. Kroll, Tami and all the persons who were invovlved. A truly delightful learning experience. May God continue to bless Back to the Bible teachings. Thanks again.
Thanks for the great comments everyone. I also learned a lot from the study of Nehemiah. I think best take a way for me was stop drop and pray. Take time out to stop, pray and think things out.
Nehemiah heard the call of God and followed. He new the laws and followed them. These two things brought about safety for God's people. We as Christians need to seek to follow the laws, commandments and statutes Christ has set for us andd gently guide one and other in the truth. I think I've learned some of that from my parents as well. Thank God.
Wow power leader indeed! What happen to that kindnof repesct and devotion to God today? Thanks P4 and thank you God.
I can't help but think Joan is a leader in some area. She has very insightful words about leadership. There are those who try to lead but without a plan or integrity. And there are some who are not experienced enough or trained so should not be in that position. Thank you for all your comments.
Remember me with GRACE my God. I am not worthy to recieve You but by Your Word You have redeemed the world. Thank you for any opportunity to serve you.
I see here that Nehemiah had a much greater fear of offending God than of offending people. After all, he and the people had witnessed in their lifetimes God's calamitous judgment on the Jews for not taking God seriously. Nehemiah also reminded the people of what happened to King Solomon, a man much favored by God, when he disobeyed God by taking foreign women as wives.
Nehemiah would not compromise with God's Word, no turning a blind eye to sin. I suspect that is how he lived his own life, and thus he had a right to confront others on their disobedience.
Oh that my own fear of offending God would also be greater than my fear of offending people. Lord Jesus, help me each day to make sure my heart is right with You, that I deal with sin in my own life, and that I hear your guiding voice each day in how I deal with other people.
