Better is one day

Psalm 84:1-12

There was one word on my mind as I finished Psalm 84--passion. I was struck by the fervent way the psalmist described his desire to be in the Lord's presence. So much so that we're told his "soul longs, yes, faints for the courts of the Lord" (verse 2) and that even one day in the courts of the Lord is better than thousands elsewhere (verse 10). Good illustrations.

So how would you describe your passion for the Lord? Tami W.

It is soo difficult for us in our humanity to remember that all things work for good if we love the Lord. This Psalm is a GREAT reminder of that (I needed it this morning as my brother-inlaw & dear friend is in stage 4 of cancer) Thank you so much for this ministry!

I long for the time myself. I have longed for that since i was 15.
I have had so many deaths of loved ones and another this last week. I long to see them but more than anything is to see the place that our Heavenly farther prepared for us. Oh what joyus day that will be. I cannot even fathom how much abundant love and joy and peace we will feel . How could we not sing and praise our Lord continually. Oh I cannot wait till that day and How thankfull I will be. This is why I cannot understand why anyone would reject or even show hatred for the love and sacrifice our Master Jesus went through. Doesnt make sence.

Yes Beth, all things work for good if we love the Lord. I pray for your brother-in-law and dear friend who is in stage 4 of cancer. I too have a friend who is in stage 4 of pancreatic cancer. The doctors requested that she had surgery but when they tried to operate it was far gone so they closed her back up. Before she was in pain, now she is not. Prayers have been going out for her and she is still holding strong. One day last week, when she got up she was not feeling well but before the end of the day she was feeling much better. We must pray without ceasing, I do not know what plan God has for her but right now she is not in pain and giving Him thanks and praise and this to me is a blessing. I pray for your brtother-in-law and ask God for His mercy and compassion. Keep the faith strong! Love and hugs.

My passion for the Lord is renewed each and every time I read a passage of Psalms! Whenever I feel down and can not find my way I run to the Psalms and I read myself full and then pray myself on fire! I, then, am ready for any battle that comes my way. It is so easy to assume that just because God is who He is that everything we face in life would be a cake-walk, but that is so not the case. Every person lifted up in the bible has went through struggles (ie David, Job, Paul, EVEN Jesus) and they overcame. Why? Because they knew they needed God someone higher than them to reach up to. We tend to just focus on the victory and forget about the struggle. Once you overcome one struggle it gives you momentum for the next struggle. Can not have joy without pain. But can not relish too much in joy that you let your guard down and too much in pain that you become crippled and can not move forward. Cleave to God for dear life and your passion for Him will increase more and more!

This is a great passage I love to read it and it is definatley one of my most favorites.

It makes me yearn to be faithful, and trust in him. I did not attend church on sunday, as a matter of fact I did not attend bible study on wednesday nor evangelistic service on Friday. I have to work next weekend and the only time i will get another opportunity to worship is on this comming wednesday. I feel feed up with todays church, it is not a spiritual but emotional experience. Lord have mercy! christ have mercy!

Thanks for all of your comments. I enjoyed reading them. I didn't make it to church yesterday. I was busy studying and taking care of some other things that came up - long story short.
I am now working full-time and going to school online. Boy did my life change when I started school 2.5 weeks ago. I must keep my priorities straight. I love the Psalms. It reminds that even David was human. He understood (just like Jesus does) when we go through our high and low points.

The longing that is expressed in this Psalm is something that I have recently been experiencing. My mother passed away just over a year ago, and that event seemed to kick off the deeper longing of my heart to experience God on a deeper level. It also gave me a strong longing, almost a jealousy, to be in Heaven with God. (My prayers are with all of you, too.)
For now, however, God has given me a passion to share His passion through Manitoba's Passion Play (a drama). If you have never been to one (and there are several around the world), I would strongly suggest that it is a very rewarding, inspiring thing to see / do / be a part of.

All ur comment are so inspiring. All i ever desire now iis to be in God's presence now.Like Wanda said,i long for the heavenly home that God has prepare for those that loves Him.i can wait to see it,whatever it will take i will make heaven. It's a shame that some people can not perceive the goodness.

Stay close to God.Keep him before you and you can come through anything.

We live in a world divided - in the flesh, tending to think our faith, drawing near to God is all about "doing" - being the Martha in our walk with the Lord. Mary chose to sit at His feet. In such a roar and cacaphony of busy-ness throughout the day, my passion is to dwell at His feet.
Centered on Christ, with my eyes fixed on Him, I can accomplish so much more. It is a choice to live with intent, to walk throughout the day, a passion that the labor of my hands and the words and actions would bring glory to my Lord. Now of course, the other question is: "So how does that work for you?" Therein lies the difference between passion of heart and execution!
It is all about being a human "being" versus a human "doing"...

I can relate with what Michael said about being with God. I think busyness is one of Satan's favorite "tools" to keep us from God. It is so hard for us as humans to accept the free, undeserved grace of God. We think we have to do something to earn it, when, in fact, we can't.

When we try to do things in our own power, it just doesn't work. When we take time to read the Word and pray, we are empowered and used by the Holy Spirit to do things of eternal value.

Unlike the OT believers, WE are God's temple and have access to Him at all times in all places. But I too, long for the day I will see Him face-to-face.
