Psalm 57
I love it when there are two different scriptures that cover the same event. That's what we have today. Yesterday we read 1 Samuel 24, the incident between Saul and David in the cave, and today we're at Psalm 57 which gives us another look at this event through the eyes of David.
So as I read Psalm 57 I kept thinking, How can David cry out to God about the horrible things that are happening to him in one breath and then exuberantly praise God in the next? My conclusion? David is taking God at His word.
So how can we draw on what we see here in Psalm 57 to help us take God at his Word? Tami W.

What really impressed me and stood out in today's reading was vs 7 where David said, "My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast! I will sing and make melody!"
I think this is the answer Tami, David's heart was steadfast! David was confident in his relationship with the Lord.
I am grieved when I consider the disconnect between the mental assent with Scripture ("..be anxious for nothing..") and what I actually do (worry about everything and spend all my time trying to shore up my security). Was it that David was that much closer to realizing God's presence? Or am I just so messed up that I can't even see what that looks like? "Lord, help my unbelief"
God never told us we would never have adversities. He tells us that He will always be there for us Hebrews 13:5 "Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for He hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee". I Corinthians 10:13 also says, "There hath no temptatation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that you are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it" (KJV). Luke 18:1 reads (KJV)" And He spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint".
We notice that David is always giving God thanks and praise and praying so we should not be fickle and keep in God's Word and keep praying. That is why God loved him so much. We have to let God see that we are committed to Him and we will do as He says. So keep trusting Him and believe in what He has said. He has always been and will be faithful to us. We are the ones who are unfaithful to Him. Tell others about His grace and His mercy and of course His love. Do not allow anyone to lead us astray.
I appreciated what Ed said. We must be confident in our relationship with God. The best way to do that is to spend time with Him and His word. I think we also need to spend time with other Christians who will uplift us. It seems that David also knew how to surround himself with good, honest friends.
I love how David doesn't whine and complain about his plight; instead, he keeps his heart and mind focused on God- via prayer, worship and thanksgiving. This is such an important lesson from David that we must stay centered on the Lord through prayer, worship and spending time in the Word. David truly exemplified total trust in God through difficulties of Goliath and Saul and he never wavered in his trust and knowledge that God would cover him.
I think Paul when you realize who you belong to and that He owns it all things will not be so scarey for you. As Ed says God is faithful. Pray that He will make your heart steadfast. :) I have struggled with some of the same things and I am realizing my place in God's arms and how much He loves me. And He owns it all. I think these studies on David have given me a lot of that. He was a child and had no fear of the giant. God is with us and he went. :) GOD is with us! I was confused too on all the psalms and haven't read them in a while tell with the study here and I've realized in this world we have troubles, God has over come this world. So David cried out in trouble and then praised God as well. Oh what a great place to be in, steadfast! Thank you Tami and Ed
Yes I must be alert and always keep on praying. We must be as the Bareans.
