Good emphasis

Psalm 62

One of the things I notice about Psalm 62 is that several key ideas are repeated and emphasized for us.

  • For God alone, my soul waits
  • He only is my rock and salvation (hope); my fortress
  • I shall not be shaken

All incredible reminders that God has us and our lives covered. I had a few rough days this past week, so coming to Psalm 61 yesterday and 62 today was good for me.

So how might we put Psalm 62 into practice in our day-to-day lives? How can we draw on these incredible words and let them be our guide? Tami W.

Human needs prove. That's why it's not easy to follow God's way (trust HIS direction) when it seems that the way leads us to a difficulties in our career, relationship, etc...

God is so amazing and gives us things we need at the most perfect times. I also had an extremely hard week last week, really the hardest in quite sometime. But God was with me thru it all and I love how he brings passages from the bible like this to continue to help me and remind me that he is there with me thru it all. Thank you for your wonderful service. My prayers are with you. God Bless!

I like verse 10 of this Psalm. "If riches increase, set not your heart on them." As an American I think the toughest struggle is not getting our peace from our bank account. Every church has Financial Peace university. As a Christian I need to get my peace from God's promises, not the excess money in my bank account.

When dealing with terminal illness, these thoughts are foundational, and the strength they provide is phenomenal.

Who more than David knows about God's grace, mercy, compassion and forgiveness? We must have confidence in God because as you say Tami, the emphases on the bulleted points above show how much He loves and cares for us and how He doe not want to lose any of us. God wants us to trust Him and keep believing no matter what adversities come upon us. When we have adversities this is even more reason we should give Him thanks and praise. This shows our love for Him and how grateful we are for redeeming us by shedding His blood and dying on the cross so we can have life. Verse 6 states, (paraphrased) that He is not only my rock and salvation, but He is also my defence and no one can move me, because HE IS who HE IS. What else can we ask for. I feel so honoured and special that God will do this for me a sinner. I can only try to repay Him (I could never repay this debt) for His grace, mercy, compassion and forgiveness but most of all for His unconditional love.
Tami, I am glad you chose these two Psalms for these two sessions and I am even happier to know that they gave you strength. I pray He will always be with you and your husband. Thank you.
Glory to God in the Highest!

As I read Psalms 61 and then Psalms 62, it brought joy to my heart and peace to my soul. My family and I have had a rough year, and without God we would have lost our minds. Psalms 62 reminded me to wait on the Lord and to continue to trust him. This brings to mind Proverbs 3:5,6. "Trust in the Lord with all thy might and lean not to thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and he shall direct thy path."

To me, this Psalm is like an oasis to a weary traveler! I believe the "key" is found in answer to your question of how we can draw from these words in the 11th vs "Once God has spoken, Twice have I heard...."

He not only heard and knew that God has spoken with his mind, but he also knew with his heart. In other words; God Words not only entered his mind, but sunk down to his heart! We need to be like "spiritual sponges" soaking in the Words of our Lord.

what i love most about psalm 62 is in vs 8 when he said directly: Trust in Him at all times, you people;pour out your heart before Him. That is what i will put into practise: to pour out my heart and trust that He will help. Especially during this time as i struggle with certain temptaions.

there is no one to boast in, except GOD. am a widow of five years now without any support from anyone except GOD. so i know that ,
HE ALONE MY SOUL WAITS,
HE ONLY IS MY ROCK AND SALVATION (HOPE), MY FORTRESS
I SHALL NOT BE SHAKEN
HE IS EVERYTHING TO ME AND EVERYONE OF US.

Tami, I concur. . Last week was trying for me as well. I am thankful for the weekend and reading Psalm 61, Psalm 62 and because of my Back to the Bible Calendar Psalm 59.

The Word calls us to meditate on His word and bind it around our heart. To bring these key words to our daily life, one can write the words on a post it note or in a note book where it is easily accessible to us. We have to keep them near to keep them ever present in our lives.
