A vicious cycle

Genesis 37:12-36

Sin is abundant in our passage today and, boy, does it just keep piling on. I kept thinking that at some point someone was going to come to their senses and put a stop to all the lies, the cover up, the out and out sinning. But, really, I knew better. That just doesn't happen.

It got me thinking, though, how sin operates in our lives. It can be addictive and it's always destructive. Funny how we allow ourselves to sin in one area--just a little sin of course (yeah right), and before we know it, our sin is running rampant and running us.

We're always going to sin because we're human and that's part of our "sinful" nature. But, we don't have to cave into sin and we can and should strive to sin less. So how do we do that? What types of things help you overcome temptation and the sin that follows if we choose to give in? Tami W.

What does unrestrained anger and jealousy lead to? How have you seen that happen? Bad judgement and more fierce anger, feeding off itself.

I had the chance to overcome just yesterday-I went back to person I had wronged and said "yes" I knew something that I had said I had not. It took me only an hour-but I could not let it go longer-it bothered me as I thought how it would put a block in the relationship if the error wasn't corrected. It is so freeing to me. If only all sin was so easy to correct!

I understand what sin is and have a fundmental understanding of what is right and wrong. My greatest problem in dealing with sin is the tendency to rationalize and like the brother Judah come up with a scheme that is less "sinful" or acceptable. Sins boundries are no longer defined as I have now created a gray area, an area where there is no real right and wrong. While this appraoch should ease my conscience it doesn't as sin by any defination is still sin. I overcome temptations and the sin that inevitably follows by not redefining the boundries of right and wrong and thus creating that "gray' area of "acceptable" sin.

Each night when I pray, I include telling God the sins I committed that day and asking for forgiveness. By acknowledging my sins to God, I recognize the temptation of the sin the next time it occurs and choose to resist it.

Sin is like that frog in that luke warm pan of water.
It keeps getting hotter,
but slowly, so you don't even notice.

I'm really amazed by God that he is faithful

No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

But he have to open our heart, and be connected with God through pray to be able to recognize the way of escape He gives us.

And the most important is to know that He is faithful to forgive us each time we sin.

why do we have to sin at all? every body knows the wrong from the right thing. we don't have an excuse that is human.we are xtians and should be christ like. when temptation come we should rely on Him who can make a way.

the opportunity to sin is a constant in our culture, with it's sensuality, greed, and disregard for life other than self. i have to cleave to the HOLY SPIRIT, becuase "in me dwelleth no good thing" but the sin nature died when Christ came in and i was raised up a new creature. sin does not have dominion over us and we can overcome sin if we daily die to self. i pray continually, especially when faced with the temptations of daily life that GOD will keep me at that moment and that i will find that "way of escape that i may be able to bear it" it also helps to have ppl to hold u accountable for your sinfulness, we have to have support because some sin leaves very deep wounds which can be reopened if they aren't healed with love and time.

We know the difference between what we should do and what we do. It was Paul who said that he did what he didn't want to do. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.

Prayer is very important in ending sin. We have to pray about the areas where we are weak. God will make us strong when we trust Him for who He is. I have to admit, there are areas where I fall short and ask for forgiveness. However, there are areas where the sin doesn't even phase me. I prayed and overcame the sin with the help of our Father.

Keep on praying, fasting and giving glory to God. He can do anything and will bring you through anything that you trust Him too. When you ask in prayer, don't doubt, just trust and believe in Him.

I felt lead to read this devotional this morning. The sin I deal with mostly is fear! From a little girl, I was and still am fearful! As I read over my initial response to sin, I found my answer as I scrolled up and looked at another blog response, something that I always knew deep in my heart! TRUST. Lord I ask You to help me trust You with the things stifling my life! Help me to understand fully Your power over my life and my power to choose Your ways and not fear! In Jesus name I pray!
