It's all about the rules

Deuteronomy 4:1-14

I like rules generally. I think they're necessary. Life would be chaotic without them. So I think that's why I like today's passage so much because it totally highlighted the rules that really matter...God's rules.

After reading Deut. 4:1-14, how important do you think it is to God, not to mention for us, that we keep His statutes and law? Recognizing that none of us are perfect and we never will be here on earth, what are some ways we can keep God's commandments close to our hearts and work on living them out each day? Tami W.

P.S. If you're doing P4, you're already on the right track. Thanks for your commitment to reading the Word with me each day.

I think rules are good. For me,they remind me that either they are there to keep me from sinning or were created because of someone else sinning. I think about the Garden of Eden. The rules were simple. Don't eat from the tree of knowledge. Adam and Eve could not follow that rule and so now we have to toil the land. Then Moses brought the Ten commandments to the people of Isreal. Yet, thet could not follow tem and so, they were punished. And then I think about my life. If I don't follow the rules, then I am punished.
Rules also keep order. If people were left to there own the world would be caotic. Rules help to keep order and, for the most part, keep us safe and able to focus on God's work to be done. I have to put this in. One must remember to follow the right rules. The worong ones will lead us awy from God.

I always thought that we are so blessed, moreso than those in the O.T., to have a personal relationship with Christ, and we are, but in verse 7 you read how they realized their nation had something special in that they could call upon the LORD God anytime. God never changes.

It is very important that we keep God's commandments. He wants us to follow them because they tell us how to live a life pleasing to God. If we do not obey God's rules, then we are following Satan. If we want to have a close relationship to God, we need to follow God's commandments. We will live a happy life and be blessed by God. Reading God's word every day helps me to stay focused on God and through reading His word I am often convicted of the little sins that I am doing every day. When I don't read the Bible, these little sins don't mean anything to me. There are a set of rules that we need to follow, and if we just think about how beneficial they are to us it will be easier to obey.

Good parents have structure and rules for their children cause they love them and want the best for us. This is the same truth as our heavenly farther wants for his children. God loves us dearly and only wants the best for use. Just like us when our children do good we bless them with a hug and kiss or some kind of material item. God wants what is best for us and wants to bless us. He wants you to love him and have a good relationship with him.

I agree with Brenda. I try to read the Bible through each year, and I also read a devotional book daily. It helps me stay focused on God and His very important laws/rules.
Thanks for all your comments.

The rules were important to God. Enough so that he gave them to us and expected his people to follow them. I don't think God changes. In facts He tells us He is the same yesterday, today and forever. His rules are for us today just as they were then and they are just as important today as they were then.

It is true that as humans we cannot be sinless but we can improve with His help everyday and begin obeying. What a joy to please our God.

Before reading Deuteronomy 4:1-14, I understood the importance of seeking God each and every day. After reading it, I know that following God daily, in His word, His laws and statutes are a very important part of being a believer. We have to be different, set apart, from the world. We should be that bright light for those who are lost in the world. Maybe we can "snatch" someone out of darkness and bring them into the Light by the life we live.

I think that to keep God commandments and to follow Him daily, we have to read His word each and every day. I am thankful for P4 and the Back to the Bible calendar. Both give me the opportunity to focus on some part of God's word each day. We must also meditate on His word and keep it near. We should be sharing with others and guiding them to seek God in good times and in trials. I believe that doing whatever it takes to stay focused on God is necessary to do His will and follow Him. The more we know, the more we will change to be more like Jesus Christ.

I agree with all the comments and as Wanda says, "God loves us dearly and only wants the best for us". God made those rules because I believe He would like each and every person on this earth to follow Him. He does not want to lose any of us. The Ten Commandments, when you look at them seem to be easy Rules to follow and adhere to, so why do most people seem to choose evil? Adam and Eve chose not to adhere and so sin came into the world. The Israelites who were led out of Egypt heard His voice and they just kept worshipping idols and kept forgetting Him. God perseveres and is merciful and because He loves us so much He sent His Only Son down to earth to die for our sins so that we can have salvation. So I cannot but work hard at keeping in the Word, because what Jesus did for me, someone who does not deserve it is incomprehensible and I praise and thank Him for His love that He cares so much for us. So let us keep praying for each other that we will always keep on the narrow path and follow in His footsteps. Thank you all.

It is so important that we obey God's laws and commands. It shows him that we truly believe in him and want to do whatever we can to please him. Ultimately, it is only him we need to worry about pleasing. We can't take the material things to heaven, so why do we worry about those things now?
