For the next three days we're reading Titus. This is a great little book and one that we can learn much from. Typically I read our entire passage for the day and then I go back and look for a particular verse, an idea or something that really catches my attention to write on. Well today was different because as soon as I read the first verse, I knew exactly what I wanted to write about--being a slave of God (or a servant of God depending on what version of the Bible you're reading).
So what do you think being a slave for God looks like according to Titus 1? Do you consider yourself a slave for God? Why? Tami W.

I am a servant to God. A God which is always truthful. A God who has promised eternal life. We must obey him and be of strong character. We are all mirrors of our character.
Faith will bring about service. Service will not bring faith.
Am I a slave to God? Good question as I find it hard to not think about myself first all the time (work, money, weight, relationships etc.). When I find myself complaining or worrying I wonder where the thoughts come from and immediately focus on God and Jesus so I stop. This has been a huge struggle for me! I strive to be a slave to only God.
It seems nothing has changed since we are still surrounded by the arrogant, quick-tempered, drunkards, liars etc.
I think in some places it is translated bond servant. This is where I believe the concept of bond servant comes from.
Exodus 21:1-6 ESV
“Now these are the rules that you shall set before them. When you buy a Hebrew slave, he shall serve six years, and in the seventh he shall go out free, for nothing. If he comes in single, he shall go out single; if he comes in married, then his wife shall go out with him. If his master gives him a wife and she bears him sons or daughters, the wife and her children shall be her master’s, and he shall go out alone. But if the slave plainly says, ‘I love my master, my wife, and my children; I will not go out free,’ then his master shall bring him to God, and he shall bring him to the door or the doorpost. And his master shall bore his ear through with an awl, and he shall be his slave forever."
It is a person who out of love for their master has chosen to make a covenant to remain in the service of their master.
God is my Master, My Father, My Rock, My Shield and what ever He wants me to do, I will with His guidance. He gave me life. He is better than an earthly father, mother, brother, sister or friend. I have not seen Him but I know Him so much better than I know my earthly family. He is always with me. He protects me, provides for me. When I cannot find something all I have to do is ask Him and you can bet He sends me right where it is. Without Him, I am nothing. As long as He gives me life, I will serve Him. Sometimes it may seem hard, but just call on His name and He will see you through it all. Just yesterday we had a problem that I personaly was worried about, and He told me it will be OK. When I got home my husband gave the good news that we did not have to worry anymore. Isn't He awesome! Let us give Him thanks and praise for all His love and mercy.

I liked your comment so much as it applies to my life that I am going to put in my journal and ponder it as I move forward into the next year.
Happy New Year to all of you that have participated in Powered by 4 and may we draw closer to the Lord through this study in the coming year.
